Information Technology and Building Coordinator

Position Summary:
The Information Technology and Building Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and monitoring the information technology needs for the School of Neuroscience, as well as facilities-related functions necessary for the SoN home, Sandy Hall. This position is multi-faceted and requires someone with experience administering and supporting information technology, excellent time management skills, and an exceptional service-oriented attitude.
This position will be the information technology go-to for the entire SoN. This will include overseeing the performance of computer systems; installation and repair of hardware, software, and peripheral equipment for all areas in the School, including locations outside of Sandy Hall.
With a home office in Sandy Hall, a newly renovated facility, this individual will serve as the primary contact for the common spaces in the building. This will include scheduling of rooms, reconfiguration of office and classroom spaces, technology setup and troubleshooting (i.e. conferencing units, computer laboratory maintenance, A/V equipment, phones, copiers, etc.). The person will assist with all facility events (i.e. seminars, conferences, symposiums, etc.) ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.
Duties will include:
• Provide support by managing the information technology needs of faculty and staff as required, requested or assigned. Will be expected to provide and demonstrate a high level of courteous customer service while executing tasks and resolving facilities-related issues and work requests;
• Oversee building facilities and services in conjunction with SoN administration (Sandy Hall);
• Order, install, troubleshoot and repair hardware, software, and peripheral equipment;
• Maintain a secure and safe IT infrastructure at all times, monitor backup of data, report network outages to NIS , act as Organizational Unit (OU) Administrator, partner with college and university experts to remain up-to-date on IT infrastructures and techniques, etc;
• Responsible for ordering and maintaining building signage (office, cubicle, laboratory, and building), building- and furniture-related key tracking and electronic access port coordination (Sandy Hall);
• Serve as Building Emergency Coordinator (Sandy Hall);
• Act as the network liaison for the SoN (this includes processing CNS orders for network services - phone, wired ports, cable, cellular, VT wireless and VPN access);
• Move phones and request changes to phone settings and line appearances;
• Request and maintain a database of IP addresses and DNS names, as well as a block of DHCP addresses for each area;
• Setup network settings on computers, printers, mobile devices, etc.;
• Install VPN software and setup on laptop computers;
• Assist with fixed assets inventory activities in conjunction with the SoN Business Manager and College representative;
• Work collaboratively with maintenance and custodial operations to ensure that the facility is clean, functional, accessible, and welcoming at all times (Sandy Hall);
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. with or without assistance of equipment such as a pallet jack, dolly, or hand truck;
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent training and broad experience in a support environment;
• Demonstrated knowledge in administering and supporting the information technology needs of a business/department and troubleshooting systems for minimal downtime;
• Previous experience working with hardware and software packages ( OSX and Windows), network printers/copiers, mobile device setup and deployment (iOS/Android), collecting and retrieving data, conferencing units, A/V equipment setup and administration in a corporate, institutional, and/or conference center context;
• Proven knowledge of Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, TCP /IP Networking, and MacOS X, installation of software and account set up;
• Experience with cloud storage - Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Research Computing, Amazon AWS , etc.
• Strong customer service and problem-solving skills and ability to communicate technical issues easily to a wide audience with varying levels of IT knowledge with a service-orientated demeanor;
• Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule and overtime as needed;
• Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to complete defined tasks and projects with little oversight.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Preference given to candidates with knowledge or experience monitoring space assignments and space utilization, providing direct services, procuring furniture and equipment, performing inventories, etc.;
• General facilities' management experience in a hospitality, community center, recreational center, academic or professional environment with excellent organizational and planning skills;
• Working knowledge of university policies and procedures;
• Experience with HokieMart, Banner, Data Warehouse, and Microstrategy.
• Demonstrated ability to problem solve quickly and effectively;
• Proven track record of staying informed on current trends and practices within the field of IT;
