Associate Director Professional Development Center

Position Description:
FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary:

The Associate Director of the Neeley Professional Development Center is responsible for providing professional coaching and training for Neeley School students by observing and identifying student developmental needs, creating programs to meet development needs, and then coaching and mentoring students to improve.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

Improves professional skills of Neeley School students by providing developmental coaching for individuals and teams, designing training materials, facilitating training sessions, providing mock case and targeted interviews, reviewing resumes and cover letters, training student coaches to perform roles effectively.

Provides strong professional role model by demonstrating an effective professional style in presentations in and out of the classroom; developing constructive and cooperative working relationships within Neeley and the University community.

Refines existing programs to improve student focus and engagement with professional development activities.

Identifies ways to improve processes, expand services, and leverage student talent to reach center goals.

Ensures consistency of program delivery by supervising part-time workers and maintaining up-to-date knowledge and methods related to talent development and delivery methods and applying new knowledge appropriately.

Effectively collaborates with Director in developing initiatives that meet strategic goals of the Neeley School and the Neeley Professional Development Center.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4 years' experience in a corporate setting with two years' in talent development or similar role.


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree in Communication, Leadership, Human Resources or other relevant field of study
  • 3 years' corporate experience in a talent development or 3 years' verifiable consulting experience working with clients to develop leadership skills, improve communication amongst teams, or general professional development.

Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
  • Certification in SDI, LPI, MBTI, DiSC or other widely used professional assessment.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of talent development
  • Knowledge of interpersonal and group dynamics.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance.
  • Knowledge of individual differences in personality.
  • Knowledge of training design techniques.
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques.
  • Skill in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships and presentation techniques.
  • Skill in selecting and applying coaching methods appropriate for the situation.
  • Ability to apply active listening techniques and use empathy to create safe environment for students to share information related to professional performance concerns.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations when facilitating or coaching.
  • Ability to establish collaborative working relationships with diverse individuals and groups (students, faculty, academic administrators and business executives).
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback assertively and respectfully to students.
  • Ability to provide developmental coaching related to talent development to individuals and teams.
  • Ability to hold students accountable for following through on identified development needs.


Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.


Work Environment:
  • Work is indoors and active with student interactions, standing while facilitating, and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
