ABOUT AIC

American International College is a private, coeducational institution of higher education located on a 70+ acre campus in Springfield, Massachusetts. The campus has 42 buildings on two sites approximately 1/2 mile apart with a total of approximately 660,000 gross square feet. Included in the inventory of buildings are student residences for a resident population of 900 students. Founded in 1885, the College has 3700 graduate and undergraduate students. AIC offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs through the Schools of Business, Arts and Sciences; Health Sciences; and Education. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Serve as the Chief of Staff to the EVPAA. This involves researching issues of importance to the Office of Academic Affairs, and providing the EVPAA with recommendations and reports relevant to the strategic priorities of the Office. Represent the EVPAA to internal and external constituencies.
  • Under the direction of the EVPAA, work with deans, Student Affairs, and the Center for Academic Success to develop comprehensive and integrative structures and processes to support student success and timely graduation.
  • With the support of the EVPAA, coordinate the institution's assessment processes at the academic program, department, school, and college level, and those in support areas. Support development of meaningful and measureable institution, program, and course student learning outcomes.
  • Under the supervision of the EVPAA, responsible for day-to-day operational support for all areas reporting to the EVPAA, including but not limited to, the School of Business Arts and Sciences, the School of Education, the School of Health Sciences, the Library, and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.
  • Under the direction of the EVPAA, ensure that academic policies are aligned with administrative policies and operations. Support appropriate communications regarding academic policies.
  • Under the direction of the EVPAA, work with IR and marketing to shepherd new program proposals from concept to market, which involves market analysis to determine market size/share, feasibility, curricular requirements, and projected financial revenue/expenses.
  • Under direction of the EVPAA, work with the deans/advisors, and the Registrar's Office to handle student inquiries/requests to the Office of Academic Affairs for policy waivers, course waivers and substitutions, grade changes, credit overloads, academic probations and dismissals, leaves of absence, and requests for reinstatement.
  • Represent the EVPAA on certain College committees, such as the Committee on Academic Standards and Policies, ceremonial functions, and other meetings. Responsible for chairing the committees for academic ceremonies.
  • Support the work of the EVPAA, deans, Admissions, and others to manage articulation agreements and external partnerships to further improve the academic quality and reputation of the College's academic programs.
  • Under the direction of the EVPAA, responsible for NEASC reaccreditation, substantive changes, and communications regarding significant developments at the College.
  • Oversee the planning for space, facilities, equipment, and technology (short- and long-term) for academic areas.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required Degree(s): An earned Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, or a related field, from an accredited institution is required
  • Preferred Degree(s): An earned Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration, or a related field, from an accredited institution is required
  • Required Field of Expertise: Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration
  • Preferred Field of Expertise: Knowledge and skills in program development and planning, project management, student and faculty services, and accreditation is highly desirable
  • Required Training/Cert: Broad understanding of current federal and state regulations and policies, and how they impact academic affairs in a higher education academic setting

  • Ability to compile and analyze data/information to inform decision-making
  • The ability to interact and work effectively with faculty, students, academic leadership, administrators, community leadership, public officials, funding agencies, and members of the community at large
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple, complex, and confidential tasks
  • Ability to plan strategically, and then operationalize plans and projects
  • Ability to follow directions, yet think creatively and work independently
  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills, and the ability to effectively summarize and present information

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of faculty, staff and student information
  • Previous experience in academic affairs or student services a plus

WORK SCHEDULE

This is a full-time, exempt, benefit eligible position. Normal office hours are 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, flexible to the needs of the department. Occasional nights and weekends required.
