ABOUT AIC

American International College is a private, coeducational institution of higher education located on a 70+ acre campus in Springfield, Massachusetts. The campus has 42 buildings on two sites approximately 1/2 mile apart with a total of approximately 660,000 gross square feet. Included in the inventory of buildings are student residences for a resident population of 900 students. Founded in 1885, the College has 3700 graduate and undergraduate students. AIC offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs through the Schools of Business, Arts and Sciences; Health Sciences; and Education. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Face-to-face class teaching, one weeknight per week from 4:30 - 9:15 p.m. in 8 week sessions
  • Class preparation: lesson planning, reading, research.
  • Grading assignments, providing students feedback.
  • Responsive to student and department needs outside of class, via email, phone, before/after class.
  • Working with Program Director in maintaining course shells, attending faculty meetings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required Degree(s): Master's degree or above in literacy or closely related field, and K-12 teaching experience are required; Must be a MA licensed Reading Specialist; Must demonstrate a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive teaching environment.
  • Preferred Degree(s): Credits beyond a Master's degree, or a doctorate in literacy (or related field) are preferred.
  • Required Field of Expertise: Master's degree and endorsement in Reading, literacy or closely related areas.
  • Preferred Field of Expertise: Credits beyond a Master's degree, or a doctorate in literacy (or related field) are preferred.
  • Required Training/Cert: Master's degree or above in literacy or closely related field, and K-12 teaching experience are required.
  • Preferred Training/Cert: Credits beyond a Master's degree, or a doctorate in literacy (or related field) are preferred.
  • Required Licensure(s): Master's degree and endorsement in Reading, literacy or closely related areas.
  • Preferred Licensure(s): Doctorate in Reading or Literacy

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong commitment to high-quality instruction in a diverse, student-centered environment and the ability to work with students with various learning styles and backgrounds
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Blackboard, and the instructional use of technology to teach traditional, hybrid or on-line courses, as needed
  • Ability to foster a collaborative atmosphere among students and faculty

WORK SCHEDULE

This is a part time adjunct, non benefited position. Classes meet 4:30 p.m. - 9:15 p.m. for 8 week sessions. Adjunct Faculty needed in the following areas: Spring: Medford, Springfield, Weymouth, and Worcester locations. Fall: East Bridgewater, Fall River, Lawrence, Marlborough, Norfolk and Wakefield locations
