Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Assistant Development Officer, Leadership Annual Giving will develop and implement strategies to increase revenue, strategic relationships, major gift prospects, and a culture of philanthropy as a pivotal part of the University of Maryland's central advancement team.

This position will work closely with alumni and philanthropists in the community, building support for the University and efforts across campus. S/he will meet, solicit and make meaningful contacts with donors and prospective donors to understand their goals and priorities, assess their interest and capacity, and raise support for campus initiatives.

The Assistant Development Officer will gain exposure to the University's wide-ranging strategic efforts and the ability to further their career in advancement. This position will collaborate with campus leaders, central units, school and college development staff, alumni relations staff, and other University representatives to manage prospect/donor relationships and strategies.

The Assistant Development Officer will have the ability to review and analyze donor/prospect data to inform and execute priority strategies. This position will work with students, University staff, and other resources as strategic partners to help position the Assistant Director to effectively build relationships and support through referrals and warm leads.

The Assistant Development Officer must be a self-motivated professional with a commitment to the University of Maryland's mission, a track record of advancing relationships, and broad knowledge of development principles.

Must be able to travel up to 30%, occasional work on evenings and/or weekends may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor's degree.

Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated success in development experience, sales, marketing, communications and/or other outreach/relationship-building skills through professional or volunteer work, education or internships.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Must demonstrate the aptitude to represent the University in a highly professional and effective manner
• Ability to cultivate relationships and solicit support from alumni and friends of the University
• Ability to make "cold" or "warm" calls to secure meetings and opportunities
• Must be highly motivated and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to establish positive relationships with colleagues, volunteers and donors
• Ability to thrive in a metric and data driven environment
• Must be a creative and strategic thinker with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
• Ability to coordinate and schedule local travel
• Must be organized and detail-oriented with strong follow-up skills
