Clinical Track Asst/Assoc Professor CORC SA Surgeon

Position Summary:
The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time clinical-track faculty position in Small Animal Surgery at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to develop a satellite surgery service which will be housed in a new Comparative Oncology Research Center ( CORC ) located in Roanoke, VA. This state-of-the-art clinical and research facility is expected to open in the fall of 2019. The successful candidate will initially join the team of faculty in Blacksburg during which time they will practice in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and be instrumental in planning the satellite surgery service. Once the CORC facility opens, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to offer all types of surgery (orthopedic, soft tissue, and oncologic surgery) and will join a team of 3 medical oncologists and 1 radiation oncologist to provide exceptional, comprehensive and compassionate cancer care.
About the Comparative Oncology Research Center: The CORC will be located within the Virginia Tech's Health Sciences and Technology ( HST ) building adjacent to the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke. This facility will serve as a premier small animal medical center that provides multi-disciplinary cancer care as well as general and orthopedic surgery. The CORC will contain three operating rooms, a new state-of-the-art linear accelerator (Varian Edge surgical suite), multislice CT, and high field strength MR units with PET capability. Roanoke is the largest city in southwest Virginia and is 45 minutes from Virginia Tech's main campus in Blacksburg. Occasional travel may be required.
Responsibilities:
•The primary job responsibility will be to develop the satellite surgery service in the CORC , providing general and orthopedic surgery services to clients in Roanoke as well as oncologic surgery in collaboration with the oncology team.
•No regular on-call responsibilities
•Additional service responsibilities include consultations with the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Blacksburg and outside referring veterinarians, participation in continuing education programs of the College and participation in faculty governance activities.
•Teaching responsibilities will include participation in clinical instruction in small animal surgery. Clinical instruction will be directed toward professional DVM students, interns, and residents.
•The applicant must be committed to excellent patient management, client service, and clinical teaching.
•Contribution to collaborative and translational research involving but not limited to veterinary clinicians, human physicians, and medical and scientific researchers.

Required Qualifications:
•DVM or equivalent degree. Employer will accept degree that is equivalent to DVM or foreign equivalent of DVM .
•Successful completion of an ACVS approved small animal surgery residency or ECVS diplomate status with eligibility for veterinary licensure in the state of Virginia.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Diplomate status with ACVS .
•Interest and experience in oncologic surgery.
•Leadership record.
