Licensing Associate - Physical Sciences

LICENSING ASSOCIATE - PHYSICAL SCIENCES

The University of Cincinnati's tech-transfer and startups functions are now part of a new Office of Innovation, and moving into the University's new 133,000 square foot 1819 Innovation Hub. Part of its mission is to ignite a thriving uptown innovation corridor, populated with large corporate partners, fast-moving startups, and curated access to student and faculty talent.

The Office of Innovation at the 1819 Innovation hub is seeking to hire a Licensing Associate to join the Tech Transfer team as new case manager. The preferred candidate will have a knowledge of the physical sciences, intellectual property and technology licensing. The case manager will report to the Director and will manage aspects of an academic technology transfer patent portfolio, including:

  • Working with faculty, staff and students to identify the commercial value of intellectual property arising from their activities
  • Working with outside counsel to protect the commercial value of intellectual property
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating agreements pertaining to research, licensing, and other aspects of university/industry collaborations
  • Making recommendations on licensing candidates for University technologies
  • Developing and maintaining professional relationships between UC and industry as well as other academic institutions.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with five (5) years of experience; -OR- Associate's degree with seven (7) years of experience; -OR- nine (9) years of related experience.
  • Degree must be in life sciences, science, engineering or a related field.
  • Experience must be in contract compliance, licensing in an intellectual property setting, or a related field.


Ideal Qualifications:
  • Degree in a physical science or engineering field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on interpersonal, negotiation skills and public speaking experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to gauge basic business considerations and potential of technologies in a wide variety of scientific fields.
  • Ability to interact effectively with constituents in academic and industry
  • Work history of effective, timely project management.
