Duties and Responsibilities:
Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) invites applications for the position of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor for Financial and Administrative Services and working closely with the Chancellor and Provost, the CHRO is responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy in support of the overall strategic direction for Auburn University at Montgomery. This position will ensure compliance with legislation, legal requirements and government reporting, and record keeping regulations at the state and federal levels.

• Establish and implement HR efforts that effectively communicate and support the university's mission and strategic vision.

• Develop comprehensive strategic recruiting and retention plans to meet the human capital needs as they relate to the strategic goals of the university.

• Provide overall leadership and guidance to the HR function by overseeing employee recruitment, career development, performance management, retention, employee relations, training, leadership development, compensation, compliance and reporting.

• Provide administrative leadership to the Office of Human Resources.

• Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws.

• Oversees staff and managerial recruitment initiatives (through applicable policies) and workforce planning in conjunction with campus leadership to ensure effective delivery of employment services and the talent needed to support the institution. Provides support to Office of the Provost regarding recruitment of faculty.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated success leading a human resources department

Knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws and regulations, and other regulatory compliance to the scope of position

Must possess a broad understanding of all functional areas of HR management, in addition to principles and methods of strategy development and management

Superior management and leadership skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively, persuasively, and credibly with all levels of employees

Demonstrated skill in negotiation, conflict management and change management

Experience with implementing and improving the functionality of HR software systems

Ability to initiate and lead continuous improvement efforts through innovative HR solutions and technology, and to create, implement, administer and evaluate best practices in human resources programs and services

Demonstrated ability to effectively handle conflict resolution and employee relations

Strong personal and professional commitment to building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive workforce and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals with diverse backgrounds and groups representing numerous perspectives and interests

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or related field and at least ten (10) years of demonstrated, progressively responsible HR experience of which at least seven (7) years must have been in a HR management role are required.

Desired Qualifications:
MBA or MA/MS in human resources or related field.
PHR/SPHR Certification or SHRM/SHRM-CP Certification
Experience in Higher Education at an accredited four year institution
