The McWhorter School of Building Science at Auburn University seeks applications for two non-tenure track Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer positions. The positions have a one-year term with the possibility of extension (nine-month academic appointment). The successful candidates would teach construction coursework in the undergraduate program and participate in service activities that support students in the School.

The school is housed within the College of Architecture, Design and Construction. The College of Architecture, Design and Construction was established at Auburn University in 1907. It is the oldest in the Southeast and one of the oldest in the United States. It is comprised of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, the School of Industrial Design and Graphic Design, and the McWhorter School of Building Science. Degrees in Building Construction have been awarded from Auburn University since 1945, providing an alumni base in excess of 3,500, including many who lead the construction industry in the Southeast U.S. The school is currently comprised of 18 full-time faculty members and a student population of approximately 550 students. The school maintains a proud tradition of practical and professional construction education, offering both Bachelors and Master's Degrees in Building Construction.

The school's facility, the M. Miller Gorrie Center, was the first building in Alabama to achieve a LEED "Gold" rating by the U.S. Green Building Council. It provides a progressive learning environment for faculty and students to explore solutions to challenges facing the construction industry. In addition, the school is undergoing upgrades this year to incorporate a VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) Lab, an EASL (Engaged Active Student Learning) classroom and an enhanced Field Lab that will result in the school having one of the finest construction education facilities in the country. The school is guided by close ties with a supportive industry. Substantial recurring funds have been committed to support the school in its mission to deliver the highest quality construction education experience possible. The individuals in these positions will be expected to be on campus during the academic year to: 1) teach students in accordance with the University mission, 2) collaborate with faculty and students in BSCI and other disciplines, and 3) interact with construction industry organizations and individuals. Salary will be based on a nine-month academic year appointment.

Minimum Qualifications

Required qualifications include: Master's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in the US construction industry; or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 10 years' experience in the US construction industry.

Applicants should have a demonstrated background in and be prepared to teach in some of the following areas: Safety, Quality Control, Plan Reading, Virtual Design and Construction, Mechanical & Electrical Systems, Project Management, Field Supervision, and Structural Systems.

Desired Qualifications

Desired qualifications include: evidence of progressively responsible industry experience over the applicant's career, evidence of effective communication, significant U.S. construction experience, professional registration or contractor's license; certification and/or credentials, capability of incorporating information technology into the classroom and experience teaching at the university level.
