We are looking for a Director to lead the Center for Global Education. Reporting to the Office of the Provost, the Director is responsible for leading and advancing the development of international programs for undergraduate and graduate students at Simmons University. From study abroad, to international experiential opportunities and international student services, the Director works closely with Deans, faculty, staff, and third-party providers to create meaningful international opportunities.

A key strategic partner on campus, Simmons's Center for Global Education (CGE) strives to cultivate and grow the intercultural competency of the Simmons community. The Center is responsible for managing international student services as well as all education abroad programming, including direct exchange partnerships and faculty-led Travel Courses. The CGE is a vital component to the internationalization of campus and, in building global leaders, continues to fulfill the legacy established by founder John Simmons.

Responsibilities

Program Management:
  • Manage operations and activities (including the budget) of the Education Abroad, developing relationships across the University andthe Colleges of the Fenway
  • Oversee faculty led travel courses and other study abroad programs
  • Develop and execute strategic vision for study abroad and international experiences, including in-house and third-party provider programs
  • Oversee the financial and operational aspects of the CGE
  • Facilitate the development of University goals and outcomes for international experiences
  • Analyze and report on key performance indicators and metrics to drive increased participation, program diversity, and opportunity
  • Ensure that application, registration, pre-departure and re-entry processes, programs, and outreach are effective, efficient, and meet the University's and students' needs
  • Collaborate closely with deans, program directors and department chairs, faculty, and co-curricular administrators
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive plan for health and safety

Advising and Student Engagement:
  • In collaboration with the advising group, consult and advise undergraduate and graduate students (and their parents, as appropriate) on selecting international programs that enable students to advance their academic, career, and personal goals
  • Consult with and advise faculty, staff and parents regarding international study opportunities and address issues
  • Counsel international students/scholars/professors on government regulations applicable to F-1 and J-1 Visas (i.e. employment/internship options, obtaining a social security number, staying in status)
  • Meet with international students as-needed to assist with processing OPT applications, authorizing CPT, and making changes to the I-20

Development and Marketing:
  • Host international visitors
  • Collaborate with COF GEO Center and other COF colleagues
  • Represent the University in venues relating to study abroad
  • Serve as liaison to international study professionals at other institutions
  • Serve as SEVP Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for F-1/J-1 community and host frequent training modules for campus DSOs
  • Maintain publishing and professional development agenda with reputable IE periodicals and conferences
  • Market international experiences

Compliance:
  • Work with Provost Office, Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions, faculty, and COF GEO Center to create Form I-20's and DS-2019's for incoming students/scholars/professors
  • Maintain up-to-date files of all F-1 and J-1 international students/scholars/professors and track changes in SEVIS
  • Register all F-1 international students in SEVIS every semester to ensure they are meeting government regulations
  • Liaise with COF Global Education Office to ensure all documentation is received to produce DS-2019's for short-term students, professors, and scholars
  • Review the Form I-17 annually with the University's Registrar
  • Stay informed of changing USCIS and DHS regulations and recertification requirements
  • Other responsibilities as necessary

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in study abroad and program management
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
  • Experience as an international traveler
  • Experience working with faculty and advising students
  • Familiarity with Studio Abroad a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others toward common goal, implementing policies and procedures to ensure safety abroad
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
