The Position:
Under the direction of the Dean of Information and Learning Technology, the Librarian will assist in the planning, organization, coordination, and implementation of various library services and programs as assigned. This 12-month San Diego City College faculty position begins at the Assistant Professor level. San Diego City College is one of three colleges in the San Diego Community College District. The libraries share an integrated library system and anticipate the future state-wide library services platform. The successful candidate will have primary responsibility at San Diego City College for cataloging and for select activities within technical services. Assignments will include cataloging and technical services (that may include the maintenance of a bibliographic database and library system site administration).

Major Responsibilities:
All San Diego City College Librarians adhere to the ALA Code of Ethics and share responsibility for departmental and faculty functions including reference services; collection management; instruction; development and assessment of student learning outcomes; liaison relationships with the faculty regarding instruction, collections, and open educational resources (OER); library promotion; committee work; program review; planning; accreditation; as well as all other duties necessary to provide quality library services and resources.

Qualifications:
Masters in library science, library and information science,OR the equivalent.

Desired Qualifications:
Masters degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.Applicants for this position must possess the following skills, knowledge, and credentials by the assignment start date: Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate:1. Knowledge of and professional experience with integrated library systems or library services platforms, including public and staff modules.2. Professional experience with original and copy cataloging, using current cataloging rules and practices. (RDA, LCSH, and Library of Congress Classification).3. Professional experience working in maintaining a bibliographic database, including authority control processes and procedures.4. Professional experience performing library reference services, including the use of various reference tools.5. Professional experience with library resources and services such as library catalogs, electronic books, online databases, open educational resources (OER), libguides, etc.6. Knowledge of library instruction methods, principles and trends.7. Knowledge of current collection management trends and methods, including faculty liaison relationships.8.Flexibility and receptiveness to new ideas, methods, duties or organizational changes.9. Experience collaborating with other departments and/or other institutions.10. Experience collaborating with paraprofessionals, librarian colleagues, and faculty in a positive and encouraging manner.11. Evidence of current professional development activities.12. Experience working positively and effectively within a culturally diverse environment.13. Strong oral and written communication skills.

Licenses:


Pay Information:
Class 1, Step A Class 6, Step C ($5,754.92 $7,754.42) per month based on the current AFT COLLEGE Faculty Tenured-Tenured Track Monthly Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
