Tutor Coordinator/SASP Assistant Academic Counselor (Program Assistant 2), UCP


The University of Connecticut is accepting applications for the full-time position of Tutor Coordinator/Assistant Academic Counselor for its Student-Athlete Success Program (SASP). This position will oversee the SASP's tutoring program, and will work as an assistant academic counselor for a cohort of student-athletes from football and another sport(s). This successful candidate will be responsible for hiring, training and managing the students who comprise SASP's tutoring staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Training and evaluating tutors, study hall monitors and academic mentors, along with other program duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director/SASP. This individual will work within the University of Connecticut, American Athletic Conference (AAC) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) general rules and regulations as well as standards regarding academic integrity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in subject area related to program specialty or equivalent combination of education and experience; minimum of three years (within the past six years) experience working within a tutoring program which services student-athletes; self-motivated and able to work independently and regularly exercise sound judgment regarding academic integrity, administrative detail and procedures; willingness to work a flexible schedule, which may include nights and weekends; must possess excellent communication and organizational skills, adaptability, and the highest personal and professional integrity standards; demonstrates the ability to work with students from diverse, ethnic, educational and cultural backgrounds; outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with faculty, staff, coaches, and members of the overall university community; knowledge of various academic integrity issues facing tutoring programs; and concrete working knowledge of NCAA eligibility rules and regulations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree in subject area related to the program specialty; worked in an academic support unit for student-athletes at the Division 1 level; experience in managing and coordinating study halls and tutoring training; worked with at-risk student-athlete population; able to demonstrate the ability to teach Life Skills topics; and knowledge of GradesFirst and Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
