Classroom Technology & AV Manager

Summary/Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Classroom Technology & AV Manager works with faculty and staff to help them achieve their educational goals through the use of technology and audio-visual solutions. The person in this position will communicate with the faculty and staff to determine ways in which the classrooms can be improved and plan further advancements and solutions for classrooms. The position provides management oversight of staff and student assistants that provide media service and on-site services to classrooms and meeting rooms. Responsibilities will also include proactively maintaining the integrity of the systems in place in the classroom, as well as providing on-demand classroom support for faculty and students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The employee in this position will have the following essential job functions:
  • Plan and implement technology solutions for classrooms and meeting rooms.
  • Facilitate training of the classroom and meeting room technology solutions.
  • Manage a team of technicians for the purpose of providing support and upkeep to classrooms and professors.
  • Process reservations for technology and AV equipment for classes, classroom presentations or meetings.
  • Deliver and set up computer and media equipment when AV Technicians are not available.
  • Administer setup of special class needs and follow up with professors to address their needs.
  • Provide assistance and support for audio or video recording.
  • Provide assistance and support for online video and audio conferencing.
  • Serve as an on-call technician for faculty and staff.
  • Troubleshoot issues with classroom technology and AV equipment, and repairs as necessary.
  • Research new technologies and tools to introduce new teaching capabilities in the classroom.
  • Maintain organized equipment areas in classrooms.
  • Perform installation or work with Facilities to perform installation of equipment in cabinets or in classrooms.
  • Participate in and successfully complete all University required training including, but not limited to discrimination/harassment and code of conduct.
  • Serve as on-call escalation for issue resolution.
  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has oversight the AV Coordinator and Student AV assistants. The Classroom Technology & AV Manager carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to hiring, recruiting, training, managing performance, conducting performance appraisals, approve salary recommendations, mentoring and coaching team members, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; assigning and directing work; scheduling work hours for team members, monitoring team members' work for alignment to ITS policy and procedure consistency and quality.

Qualifications/Education and/or Experience:

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • Five years of related technical experience managing and troubleshooting audio/visual technology is preferred.
  • Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Completion of the Certified Technology Specialist Exam is preferred.

  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to set and change priorities amongst multiple competing constituencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing plans and budget for classroom technology deployment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing technical design and training documents.
