Postdoctoral Associate

Position Summary:
The position will focus on the design and manufacturing of electrochemical energy storage and conversion systems to improved system scalability, safety, reliability, energy density, cycle life and cost economics. The duties include:
1. The candidate will design and test the electrochemical flow system for energy storage or materials recovery
2. The candidate will characterize the material, fluid or suspension using various techniques to understand the properties and how the properties influence system performance
3. The candidate has to make every effort to achieve the targeted system performance such as energy density, power density and cycle life.
4. The candidate will be expected to communicate their results through journal publications, conference and funding agency presentations
5. The candidate will supervise undergraduate and graduate researchers and facilitate collaboration among team members

Required Qualifications:
1. PhD (within the last 3 years) in materials science and engineering, chemistry or related fields
2. Experience in battery or fuel cell/electrolyzer development
3. Familiar with materials characterization techniques such as XRD , SEM , Raman, ICP - AES and FTIR
4. High proficiency in electrochemical techniques such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, chronoamperometry, cyclic voltammetry, and battery testing
5. Creativity, flexibility and problem solving capability of working both independently and in multidisciplinary teams

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in lithium ion batteries materials and sulfur chemistry
2. Proven track record of first author publications and research experience
