Electronic Engineering and Technology Instructor 


Position Title: Electronic Engineering and Technology Instructor             
Dept:  Engineering and Technology
Employee Status: Full-time (9-month)
Type: Faculty
FLSA: Exempt


Reporting Relationships
Reports to: General supervision is received from the Dean of Aviation, Engineering and Apprenticeship
Supervision Exercised: Functional supervision may be exercised over student workers.

Job Summary
Teach assigned classes and laboratory sections and perform related activities to classroom instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Related duties may be assigned.
 

  1. Meet classes at assigned times. (Schedule normally includes both day and evening classes.)
  2. Plan course content and assign appropriate course work.
  3. Maintain student records.
  4. Evaluate student progress and assign grades.
  5. Revise course outlines, objectives, and catalog information as needed.
  6. Select appropriate texts, and teaching materials.
  7. Maintain office hours convenient for students.
  8. Prepare course/class reports as required.
  9. Attend and participate in conferences related to teaching area.
  10. Maintain membership in appropriate professional organizations.
  11. Submit budget requests and written narrative when appropriate.
  12. Keep informed on latest industry and technical developments.
  13. Attend required meetings (faculty, division, in-service, training, etc.).
  14. Assist in short-range and long-range planning.
  15. Assist in developing and maintaining educational pathways for high school, as well as adult and continuing education students.
  16. Participate in division, college, advisory committees, and community activities.
  17. Instruct students in the proper use of lab equipment where appropriate.
  18. See that equipment and/or labs are properly maintained where appropriate.
  19. Maintain supply and equipment inventory where appropriate.
  20. Participate in classroom, course, program, and institutional assessment for student learning.
  21. Regular attendance is expected.
  22. Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.


Related Duties
 

  1. Assist in student program advisement.
  2. Recruit students when appropriate.
  3. Assist in work-based placement (e.g., internships, apprenticeships, and post-graduation opportunities) when appropriate.
  4. Support grant activities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear.  Physical requirements include the ability to stand for 4 hours and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds.


Conditions of Employment: This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position. Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and group life insurance plans are offered and State Universities Retirement System (SURS) administered retirement plan.  Salary is commensurate with education and experience.  Flexibility in work schedule is necessary.  Interest in serving a diverse student population is essential.

The successful candidate will be qualified to teach many of the courses in the Electronic Engineering Technology (EET) and Associate of Engineering Science (AES) degrees and will provide lecture and laboratory instruction and student support activities for the existing EET and AES program.
 
A candidate chosen for this position will have the opportunity to assist with the development of educationally sound courses and curricula, viable alternative methods of course presentation, computer-assisted instruction, e-learning, and learning pathways from high school, adult, and continuing education into EET and AES programs of study.

Required Qualifications
 

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or a combination of related education and related experience and 2000 hours of non-teaching professional experience in a manufacturing environment.
  2. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for 4 hours and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds.


Desired Qualifications
 

  1. Master’s degree/academic specialty in education, engineering, or electrical engineering technology.
  2. 5 years of experience teaching equivalent or related courses, preferably at the community college level.
  3. 3-5 years of industry experience.
