DASL Associate

PAY GRADE: 31E

DEADLINE: Open until Filled

CONTEXT OF JOB:

Under the limited direction of a Senior Associate Director for DASL, the DASL Associate will work with schools to provide quality professional development for teachers and administrators in DPAS 2, specifically Planning, Classroom Environment, and Instruction. Through the offering of workshops, demonstration lessons, coaching and mentorship, the DASL Associate will work to enhance PK-12 teachers' instructional knowledge and pedagogy and student outcomes in partnership schools. The DASL Associate will support grant-funded initiatives and research projects in CEHD that are aimed at improving PK-12 education.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop professional development programs aimed at enhancing the teachers' and administrators' knowledge of teaching pedagogy.
  • Work with DASL Senior Associate Director to secure external funding to improve teaching and learning in PK-12 schools.
  • Participate in development and implementation of projects to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
  • Coach/mentor PK-12 teachers in activities that enhance students' knowledge and skills linked to DPAS 2 state-adopted educational standards.
  • Observe teachers in classroom to assess relevant skills, and recommend methods and strategies appropriate.
  • Develop mentoring program for novice teachers.
  • Serve on state committees and initiatives.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Education or related field and five years of teaching experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Doctor of Education preferred.
  • Experience in a school, district, charter or state leadership positon with a proven track record of effectiveness.
  • Competency in current research-based instructional strategies.
  • Effective organization and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Credibility with teachers, school/district staff administration, and DOE personnel.
  • Experience providing professional development and technical guidance in integrating new strategies and techniques into classroom instruction.
  • Ability to problem solve, implement, and evaluate solutions.
  • Program planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of educational stakeholders internal and external to the University.
  • Knowledge or expertise in curriculum development and revision process.
  • Experience working with diverse students and students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and requirements.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Accessible, reliable transportation to travel in-state and out-of-state with short notice, sometimes for a week.
  • The physical environment requires the candidate to arrange rooms for professional development and ensure that all equipment and materials are available. Frequently required to move tables, chairs and equipment and transport materials and technology equipment to conduct training sessions.
