Recruitment and Admissions Specialist

Summary/Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Des Moines University seeks a Recruitment and Admissions Specialist to provide direct oversight to the admissions process for assigned programs. Recruitment and Admissions Specialist will have autonomy to create the diversity recruiting strategy and ultimate authority to determine individual strategies based on policies and budget allocation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Independently maintain admissions-related statistics and report on a routine/as-requested basis; report on projections of enrollment for planning and budgetary purposes for assigned programs. Conduct surveys of declined/cancelled students and incoming students; maintain records of survey results and draw appropriate conclusions. Serve as direct liaison to assigned programs' Admissions Committee and the Admissions Committee Chair. Coordinate Admissions Committee meetings ensuring all data reporting is accurate and available.
  • Oversee the admissions process for the assigned programs including serving as the institutional liaison to the national application service (if applicable). Perform file review and make final decision regarding a student's application per assigned programs' selection criteria and application process; based on file review, determine which applicants progress in the application process for interview or Admissions Committee consideration. May deviate from typical admissions standards when, in his/her discretion, the employee determines it is appropriate to do so. Ensure proper disposition of applicant files at end of enrollment cycle. Develop and coordinate the interview day schedule and experience. Provide status updates to assigned programs on status of application and follow up with new inquiries and applicants on incomplete files and encourage completion. In collaboration with the Director of Recruitment and Admissions, work with program directors and admission committee leadership for assigned programs on recruitment/admissions issues. Assist with annual review of online application forms.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Recruitment and Admissions, develop admissions policies that ensure consistent selection criteria, including parameters for selecting applicants to interview; develop processes that balance experience, attributes and metrics to ensure that the assigned programs' matriculates fulfill DMU's mission, vision, and core values for excellence, service, and diversity. Periodically evaluate the effectiveness of policies and procedures in recruitment and admissions to ensure evidence-based screening criteria and alignment with best practices for the assigned programs. Stay abreast of national trends and market influences for assigned programs. Conduct studies of admissions policies and contribute information and expertise to the committees concerned with admissions criteria and requirements for admission for assigned programs.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Recruitment and Admissions, conduct annual interviewer and student interviewer training. Assist with the development, utilization and distribution of promotional and marketing materials, recruiting information, admissions information and related materials; assist the Director of Admissions & Recruitment and University Webmaster in maintaining current information on program web pages. Assist with student orientation; be present for check-in, greeting incoming students, assisting with questions, etc.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Recruitment and Admissions, develop the annual recruitment and admissions strategies for the assigned programs. Strategies will include development and maintenance of high school and undergraduate pipeline programs. As well as corporate and pre-health advisor relationships that support the recruitment funnel.
  • Independently determines recruiting territory, what schools to visit, and when those visits will occur. Recruitment travel (local, state, and national) to include delivering presentations to pre-med classes, clubs, and other interested groups on all DMU programs at graduate and professional school fairs and job/career fairs for recruitment purposes. Represent the University in a highly ethical manner in all recruitment activities on and off campus. Report on activity after each event and assist in determining effectiveness of the activity. Establish and maintain effective communications with influencing agents (i.e. pre-health advisors at other collegiate institutions, health care executives, etc.); maintain current contact information.
  • Assist in managing expenses within the budget.
  • Participate in and successfully complete all University required training including, but not limited to discrimination/harassment and code of conduct.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required.
  • Two years of experience in recruiting, marketing, human resources, pipeline development, student admissions or related activities in higher education preferred.
  • Experience with admissions software preferred.
  • Healthcare background/experience helpful.
  • For position assigned to online programs, experience with online education and recruitment is preferred.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel) required.
  • Ability to develop and/or maintain relationships with local and regional public health departments, hospital systems, other health organizations, undergraduate advisors and institutions to position DMU as an educational resource for the development of their employees and matriculating students.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and present oneself in a professional manner with applicants, students, peers, faculty and administration within Des Moines University and other educational institutions. Must be able to work with diverse groups of people and personalities.
  • Excellent communication and public presentation skills essential.
  • Able to exercise good judgment in making various decisions related to the functioning of the department.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle/work with highly confidential information.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to travel local & nationally 20-25 percent of time as required.
