Rank: Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure-Track) Qualifications: Required: A doctorate with expertise in bilingual education or a related field by time of appointment. Bilingualism and biliteracy in Spanish and English. Knowledge of California public schools, instructional strategies, and assessment models with particular reference to challenges and opportunities for bilingual and ELL students. Knowledge of CCSS and California ELD standards. Experience teaching/working in public schools characterized by cultural and linguistic diversity. Demonstrated potential for scholarly activity, including grant writing. Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population evidenced by cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience. Experience with teaching (or skills to teach) in both Spanish and English at the undergraduate and graduate levels. For appointment at advanced
rank: record of publications and/or grants and substantial teaching experience. Preferred: Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas: (1) teaching in a bilingual Spanish-English classroom; (2) core content (language arts, social studies, mathematics, or science); (3) working for social justice, educational equity, and multilingualism, specifically in K-12 school communities; (4) technology to enhance teaching and learning; (5) second language acquisition and meeting the needs of second language learners; (6) differentiation and using a range of pedagogical strategies to support culturally, academically, and linguistically diverse student populations; (7) providing services to students with special learning needs (e.g., Special Education credential, MTSS, etc.); (8) school-university partnerships and/or providing professional development to K-8 teachers in literacy, assessment, content-area instruction, and/or instructing second language learners; (9) literacy in the content areas/literacy across the curriculum, particularly related to STEM; (10) NGSS or SBA; (11) teaching a wide range of courses in pre-service and MA programs; and/or (12) program coordination.

Responsibilities: Coordinate the Bilingual Authorization program and teach (in Spanish and English) courses in the teacher preparation program, including courses for the bilingual authorization. Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in the following programs: Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, MA (Curriculum and Instruction). Supervise MA students' research projects and/or teacher candidates. Serve on department, college, and/or university committees. Contribute to program and curriculum development. Maintain an active and productive research agenda. Candidates must address the needs of a student population of great diversity - in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation - through course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
