Qualifications:
Moss Landing Marine Laboratories (MLML) and San Jose State University (SJSU) are seeking well-qualified
applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position to provide quality undergraduate and graduate instruction, and to
pursue a vigorous research program in the general area of Chemical Oceanography. We are seeking a field-oriented
scientist with broad interests in Chemical Oceanography, possibly including environmental chemistry, analytical
chemistry, and biological/chemical/physical interactions. The successful applicant must have a strong commitment to
quality instruction and a record of a vigorous research program that can involve graduate students. A Ph.D. is
required. Applicant materials should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a
multicultural population as might have been gained through cross-cultural study, teaching, training and other
comparable experiences.

Responsibilities:
Teaching responsibilities include courses in chemical oceanography, biogeochemical processes, and other classes in
specific areas of expertise. The candidate is expected to establish and maintain a vigorous extramurally funded
research program involving MS students. The successful candidate will be a SJSU faculty member but will be located
at the MLML facility, with all or most of their teaching/research conducted at MLML. Due to the remote location of
MLML, the candidate will not ordinarily serve on College or University level committees at SJSU, yet will be
expected contribute to MLML faculty meetings that serve as the main MLML institutional decision-making body.
Candidates are expected to attend and assist with laboratory-sponsored events, and lend support during promotional
events (Open House, fundraising, etc.). Faculty members represent the institution and are expected to conduct
themselves professionally in all external interactions and be collegial and supportive of other faculty members, staff,
and students. Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity, in age, cultural background,
ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation, through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

Salary Range:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
