Rank: Assistant Professor Qualifications: The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at San Jose State University invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position in Applied Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in the mathematical sciences or a closely related field by July 2018. We seek applicants with demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level, outstanding research potential, and a commitment to department service. Successful candidate will have expertise in Discrete Mathematics, Optimization or Cryptography. Experience with business, industry, or government is highly desirable, as we are looking for faculty who will help students find mathematical careers in business, industry, or government. Applicants should demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

Responsibilities: In addition to teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the faculty member is expected to supervise graduate students, to maintain a program of scholarly activity, to work on curriculum development, and to be involved in departmental governance. Faculty in applied mathematics are also expected to supervise student teams working on industry-sponsored research projects run by the department's Center for Applied Mathematics, Computation and Statistics (CAMCOS). Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity - in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation - through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Starting Date: August 17, 2018
