Qualifications:
The Dept. of Film and Theatre seeks qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure-track position in Musical Theatre, with an
emphasis on performance techniques in acting, singing, dance and directing. The ideal candidate will possess critical and
theatre historical knowledge combined with contemporary practice in musical theatre and proven ability to direct stage
musicals. The candidate will develop and teach courses that serve a diverse body of theatre students with emphasis on
practical training for musical theatre performance; emerging trends in musical theatre; and the history and theories of the
genre. The candidate will serve to support multidisciplinary theatre and film initiatives within the department and across
the university. Applicants should have an awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural population
as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.

Required:

• An MFA or PhD in Musical Theatre, Theatre, or related field.

• A portfolio of creative work demonstrating artistic achievement in musical theatre.

• Professional experience and expertise in directing musical theatre.

• Emphasis on performance techniques in acting, singing, and or/dance.

• University teaching experience.

• Demonstrated artistic achievement as evidenced by a record of artistic production.

Preferred:

• A minimum of two years teaching experience at the university level.

• Demonstrated strong writing and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities:

• Design and teach introductory and advanced level courses in musical theatre performance, including movement
technique, vocal technique, acting technique and directing technique, as well as classes in musical theatre history
and theory; stage acting; and theatre appreciation.

• Advise students and participate in student recruitment.

• Perform committee and other service at the department, college and university levels.

• Participate in curriculum development and teaching of other courses to meet the needs of the program and its
students.

• Develop and sustain an ongoing record of creative activities (and/or research), and other professional engagement.

• Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity - in age, cultural background,
ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation - through course materials, teaching strategies and
advisement.

Salary Range:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Starting Date: August 17, 2018
