Qualifications:
A PhD or MFA in a field of RTVF, Film or Theatre, with sufficient publications or creative productions to warrant tenure
and Associate or Full professor. Administrative experience required, including managing staff and budget. Strongly
preferred: familiarity with administrative programs involving film and/or theatre production and/or studies. Applicants
should demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been
gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

The College of Humanities and the Arts, which houses the Film and Theatre department, also runs the state-of-the-art Hammer Theatre, a City of San Jose/San Jose State University partnership that allows opportunities for co-productions as well as signature department-produced film, theater, and RTVF events. The Hammer Theatre provides unique opportunities for the Department of Film and Theater to continue to expand their collaborative vision across the three fields contained in the department as well as to represent the department to both the University community and the entire region.

Responsibilities:
The Department of Film and Theatre at San Jose State University seeks to hire a Chair to lead the development of its
numerous programs. Responsibilities will include:

• Developing the department's potential by working closely with faculty on curricular and grant projects;

• Working closely with the Dean and other College chairs and directors to implement University policies and
programs;

• Supervising staff, including department admin., costume shop manager, scene shop manager, master electrician,
engineer, film checkout room coordinator, manager of campus radio station, and director of production;

• Managing Department budget, including numerous Foundation endowment and scholarship accounts;

• Managing Department GE and program assessment and five-year program reviews;

• Managing Retention, Tenure, Promotion, and Recruitment processes according to University and union contract
guidelines;

• Teaching courses in the applicant's area(s) of expertise;

• Working with development officers on fundraising projects;

• Guiding film and theatre productions toward inter-disciplinary cooperation;

• Supervising an Associate Chair;

Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity - in age, cultural background, ethnicity,
primary language and academic preparation - through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Starting Date: August 17, 2018
