Rank: Assistant Professor (Tenure-track) Qualifications: Ph.D. in economics or a closely related field by the start of appointment. Teaching experience and research expertise in microeconomics. Preference is for fields in Economic History, Public Choice, or Financial Economics. A commitment to outstanding teaching of applied economic reasoning and problem solving at the undergraduate and graduate level is required. The successful candidate should demonstrate experience, understanding, and/or potential for excellence in teaching and should demonstrate research potential through peer-reviewed publications and presentations. Successful applicants will demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, and must address the needs of a student population of great diversity - in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation - through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement. Candidates should demonstrate skill with appropriate technologies and pedagogies, as well as dedication and interest in mentoring students, including first generation and second language undergraduates and graduate students. Teaching excellence, publication in refereed journals, and active university and community service are required for tenure and promotion.

Responsibilities: San Jose State University is a teaching institution that values mentored research. We are an entrepreneurial group of teacher-mentor-scholars who interact more like a start-up than a traditional department. Candidates should demonstrate capacity for and commitment to collegial, interdisciplinary collaboration. The candidate must maintain a productive research program, which may consist of collaborative research across the University. Successful candidates will teach and develop curriculum in their fields, conducting classes for students at the principles through graduate levels. Candidates will participate in service through membership on department, college, and university committees, and through the academic advising of students. The Department engages in applied economic research with local and statewide impact. All faculty are expected to be responsive to requests from local print and broadcast media and otherwise interact effectively with Silicon Valley communities.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
