Qualifications:
The Department of Biological Sciences at San Jose State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in
physiology. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and postdoctoral experience in the physiological sciences.
Candidates should have a proven record of excellence in teaching and research or evidence of promise for excellence in
teaching and laboratory based research. Expertise in one of the following areas of physiology is strongly preferred:
cellular, cardiac, gastrointestinal, renal, or respiratory physiology. Candidates should have laboratory based research
experience and have published in their area of expertise. Preference will be given to candidates whose backgrounds
complement and augment existing faculty and programs. Applicants should have awareness of and sensitivity to
educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and
other comparable experience.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate is expected to take a leadership role in the physiological sciences and related fields. Teaching
duties can include participation in a variety of lower-, upper-division and graduate courses for pre-professional, major,
and non-major students. These courses include but are not limited to Cardiorespiratory Physiology, Systems Physiology
lecture and laboratory courses, Integrative Physiology, Cell Physiology, graduate level physiology lecture or laboratory
courses, and the freshman core biology series. The candidate is expected to establish a successful research lab utilizing
tissue-, organ-, or systems-level studies of a physiological nature. The candidate is encouraged to develop teaching and
research collaborations with department faculty in other disciplines of biology. Innovation in teaching is strongly
encouraged and research involving masters and undergraduate students is expected. Applicants'
materials should demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural population as might
have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.

Salary Range:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
