Gordon State College invites applications for a lecturer of history with specialization open—all subfields and time periods are welcome. Applicants must have their completed PhD in history by August 2018. Primary responsibilities will include teaching survey courses in Western Civilization and American History, advising students, and engaging in appropriate institutional/community service and scholarship.

The Department of History & Political Science, within the School of Arts and Sciences, has ten full-time faculty members. Presently the department has eight faculty members in history. A baccalaureate major in history was implemented in Fall 2011 and to date has graduated 70 majors in history or history with secondary teaching certification.

Gordon State College has served the community and region continuously since its founding in 1852, and has been a unit in the University System of Georgia since 1972. After more than three decades of serving the state as a residential two-year college, in 2006 Gordon College was named a state college and asked to develop selected four-year programs to address critical state needs. Currently the college offers ten baccalaureate majors as well as associate majors. Gordon State College serves roughly 4000 students with the good work of more than 100 full-time faculty.

The main campus of Gordon State College is situated in Barnesville, Georgia, a lovely town located an hour south of Atlanta, Georgia. Students and faculty enjoy the pleasures of small-town living together with access to the many attractions of a major metropolitan center and an international airport.
