Duties and Responsibilities:
Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) invites applications for the position of Director of University Communications. The successful candidate will report to the Chancellor and provide advice and assistance to the Chancellor and his Senior Staff regarding communications and other written correspondence. The director will assist the Chancellor with formal written and oral communications and will develop and implement communications plans to serve a variety of University purposes. The director will oversee dissemination of campus news, represent the University to the press, manage public relation campaigns on social media, and serve as University spokesperson as needed. The Director of University Communications will collaborate with all major stakeholders of the university, including the Director of University Marketing, to support strategic communications efforts.

In addition to providing direct supervision of staff within the unit, the director will provide oversight of the communications budget.

Position Duties and Responsibilities include:

Provide advice and direction to the Chancellor and Senior Staff regarding communications.

Collaborate with communications team to create content for and edit the annual report.

Work with the Chancellor to develop formal written and oral communications.

Work with communications staff to produce written content to be published on various platforms including the AUM website, email announcements, e-newsletters, reports, brochures, news releases or other publications.

Edit and update the written content of the university website. This will include all aspects of the website.

Work collaboratively with the Director of University Marketing in relation to written content.

Represent the University to the press and serve as spokesperson as needed.

Develop a variety of written materials as needed.

Develop and implement communications plans as needed to serve a variety of University purposes.

Collaborate with all major stakeholders of the university to support strategic communications efforts.

Provides oversight of the communications budget.

Establishes and administers policies and procedures within the unit.

Provides direct supervision of staff within the unit.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field is required. Master's degree preferred. Six (6) years of experience in Communications with at least three years in communications management is required. Experience in a college/university setting is preferred. The successful candidate must have strong time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities concurrently.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally.

The preferred candidate must have a successful track-record of implementing communication strategies while maintaining the highest standards of honesty and integrity.

The successful candidate must have experience managing budgets and in providing direct supervision of staff.
