Position Summary: The Dean of Nursing, administrator of the nursing program, provides leadership to the faculty in the nursing program for the development, implementation and evaluation of the nursing program and is responsible to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for the College for all academic, personnel, and budget concerns in the program. Working in support of the mission and goals of the College, he/she serves as a member of the Vice President's staff and makes recommendations to the Vice President in the areas of curriculum, personnel, and budget. He/she also serves on the Deans Council, the Learning Council, and other committees/task forces as assigned.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide leadership in the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of the nursing program. Ensure continued quality and integrity of the nursing curriculum by overseeing the curriculum development process, including the development and maintenance of course syllabi and using assessment data in an ongoing evaluation of the achievement of identified student learning outcomes for continuous program improvement.



Assist with the recruitment, selection, and orientation of full- and part-time nursing faculty and support staff. Make recommendations for hiring and retention/promotion/tenure of nursing program faculty.



Oversee and approve the staffing of program areas.



Promote effective communication within the nursing division and serve as a liaison between nursing faculty and administration to maintain a communication system that involves faculty in the decision-making process



Assume responsibility for budget development, resource management, and strategic and operational planning for the nursing division, which incorporates the development, implementation and evaluation of nursing program goals in support of those of the College.



Develop and implement a process for student recruitment and selection.



Facilitate processes for student advisement and counseling by overseeing advisor assignments and scheduling, reviewing intents to graduate for students assigned to Nursing advisors, and assisting in awarding of transfer credit and course substitutions.



Mediate and assist in the resolution of student and faculty concerns, conflicts, complaints, and grievances.



Facilitate ongoing relationships between the nursing division and college administration, affiliating clinical agencies and other nursing educational programs. Promote partnerships with area healthcare agencies in support of the nursing program objectives.



Maintain approval status by the Tennessee Board of Nursing and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).



Perform varied administrative duties as necessary, including attending meetings, interacting with other departments of the college and with other entities in TBR and the community.



Support and encourage professional development of nursing faculty and staff. Participate in professional organizations as relevant.



Conduct regular meetings within the nursing program and with the Nursing Program Advisory Committee.



Teach in area of competence according to College policy as needed.



Encourage and support grant-writing among nursing faculty and participate in collaborative grant proposals with area colleges, universities and agencies.



Understand and follow the policies and procedures of the College, TBR, SACS COC, The TN Board of Nursing and ACEN.



Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: A Master's degree in Nursing or a related field. 3 years teaching experience in nursing or related discipline at the college level. Current Tennessee Registered Nurse Licensure (or licensure eligible).

Preferred Qualifications: Earned Doctorate in nursing or related field. Community College teaching or administration experience. Experience in teaching or administrating of distance learning. Experience with nursing accreditation processes.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Work Characteristics: Proven leadership skills, and excellent human relations skills. Good communication and computer skills. Actively participate in institutional and, as appropriate, community activities that support the institution's mission.

Pay Rate: 76,790.00 - 93,101.00 annual salary depending on experience

Work Location: The primary work location will be on Volunteer State's Gallatin campus, but the position will require frequent travel throughout the college's service area and beyond depending on clinical site locations.
