While the Women's Center's primary purpose is to serve undergraduate students, it also offers information, event opportunities, and resources for graduate students, faculty, staff, alums, and parents.
As a leader in the Division of Student Affairs and a member of the Group of Five director team, the Director serves as a campus resource and educates the community emerging issues regarding gender and women. The Director is responsible for establishing the Center s vision and for addressing student concerns regarding gender and women s issues. The Director works closely with students and student organizations to build leadership skills and develop relevant programming. The Director collaborates with other university offices to provide education and resources about gender-based violence. As a Division of Student Affairs manager, the director works closely with the departments within and beyond the division. The Director will serve on a variety of University- and school-wide committees and working groups and take on special projects and other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Affairs, including participating in the on-call team for the division of Student Affairs. Some night and weekend commitments are required.
Qualifications:
Basic Requirements:
- Master s degree; superb judgment, demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial and oral and written communication skills.
- 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience supporting students within an educational setting, preferably within a selective university or liberal arts college environment.
- Expertise on intersectional feminist approaches to student support services; strong background in women s and gender studies; and a nuanced understanding of various models for women s and gender resource centers. The Director should display an understanding of the cultural constructions of gender as they intersect with race, class, ethnicity, sexual identity, religion, citizenship status and ability.
- Demonstrated sensitivity, imagination, and effectiveness in developing educational and community programs.
- Awareness of how social identities will impact the experience of college students and an understanding of how misogyny, sexism, and gender-based violence operate on a college campus.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team; proven ability to develop and maintain productive, collegial working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/tasks with thorough attention to detail and consistency; ability to set and attain goals while working both collaboratively and independently on various projects.
- Strategic leadership and management skills, including the ability to recruit and develop outstanding staff and support a team of colleagues within a demanding office environment are a plus.
- Experience working effectively with young adults/adolescents, families, faculty, senior administration and staff members within a similar higher education setting is strongly preferred.
- Experience evaluating, refreshing and updating administrative policies, office systems and budgets within an educational setting strongly preferred.
- A demonstrated understanding of strategic planning, experience utilizing data and assessment to inform decision making, and effective program advocacy skills are all preferred.
- Experience successfully engaging campus climate issues through co-curricular student-focused programs and leadership development a plus.
- Terminal degree in relevant academic field, relevant teaching and topical research experience a plus.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Some night and weekend commitments, including participation in the administrator-on-call rotation, required.
