Payroll and Benefits Accountant - Tufts Support Services

The Support Services organization at Tufts University delivers administrative services to schools and central units across the university s three campuses. Administrative activities that are common across the many central divisions and schools have been consolidated, allowing expert teams to provide exemplary administrative support to faculty and staff. Comprising administrative support for transactional tasks in human resources, finance, and information technology, along with professional services for budgeting and other functions, support services operates under a governance model that includes service level agreements. Tufts Support Services is customer-focused and strives for continuous improvement and high customer satisfaction.

Payroll and Data Administration manages the day-to-day administration and maintenance of employee job and personal data. Payroll specialists manage payroll for all university employees, including overseeing the collection and approval of time and attendance data, processing payroll data, processing benefits, tax, and other deductions, distributing pay, producing reports and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Responsible for the accurate, timely, reconciliation of all benefit and payroll accounts. The Payroll and Benefits Accountant works closely with the other Payroll Specialists and with the Data Administration team in Support Services, as well as the Benefits Office and with Finance. The incumbent processes unemployment claims, wage verifications, and benefits billing, and completes employment verification requests.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
  • Associate s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years related experience in benefits or payroll accounting.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar HCM system for HR, payroll and benefits processes.
  • Understanding and application of general accounting and finance principles.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service orientation and strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to prioritize, meet deadlines, problem-solve and research thoroughly, contribute to peer learning and collaborate in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience.
