Occupational Safety Compliance Officer

Position Summary:
Performs comprehensive audits and inspections for compliance to over 20 different EHS programs and OSHA regulations, including those that are quite complex in nature, and where extensive knowledge of regulatory requirements is necessary to make judgement calls on research and development applications, which do not fall into the traditional implementation. Interviews, observes and investigates workplaces for hazard identification, evaluation of risk, and recommendations on engineering and administrative controls, and personal protective equipment. Documents findings and effectively communicates corrective and preventative measures to various levels of the campus community. Acts as subject matter expert to campus community for assigned program areas.
Makes recommendations to Program Manager(s) regarding changes in programmatic processes or procedures based on regulatory changes and/or application in a very diverse living/learning/working environment. Assists with industrial hygiene air sampling and task evaluation, as needed. Performs accident investigations and reviews.

Required Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in safety engineering, safety or related field or equivalent training and experience.
-Working knowledge of the technical principles, procedures, and techniques used to achieve compliance with OSHA safety-related regulations and university policy in assigned program areas.
-Experience with inspecting, and implementing, OSHA regulations and implementing safety and health programs.
-Ability to act independently and as a team member.
-Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.
-Experience preparing technical reports and professional correspondence.
-Experience with Microsoft Office software.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Associate or Certified Safety Professional
