Asst. Director of Certification & Student Records

Title Position Reports To: Director Certification & Student Records
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Certification & Student Records, this position will be responsible for advising students, prospective students, and alumni, in person, by phone or by email with certification inquiries and/or issues. Responsibility also includes undertaking appropriate levels of clearance for graduation and student teaching. This position will advise faculty, program directors, students, and staff regarding current NYS certification requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Assist the Director of Certification with graduation clearances.
Clear students for clinical practice, including student teaching or practicum.
Review advisement sheets for satisfaction of undergraduate general education requirements, content area requirements, and program requirements.
Review NYS TEACH website and students' Adelphi records for satisfaction of Fingerprinting requirement, NYS seminar requirements and NYS Teacher Certification Exam requirements.
Assist current students and alumni with certification processes and issues.
Act as a liaison for students with the NYS Education Department.
Process Out-of-State verification documentation.
Prepare letters of program completion and various letters as requested by students and alumni.
Process salary differential requests from alumni through transcript evaluation reviews.
Direct certification candidates to NYSED requirement when seeking an additional certification.
Maintain student files in Harvey Hall and Chasner Street.
Work closely with program directors, the Office of School and Community Partnerships and the Office of the Registrar, and other departments as needed.
Conduct certification presentations throughout the year.
Prepare reports as needed.
Follow-up on correspondence sent to students regarding deficiencies related to student teaching and graduation.
Supervise P/T administrative assistant and graduate assistant.
Monitor NYSED updates regarding certification requirements for teacher and school leader certification.
Electronically report NYSED workshop completion through state regulated database (Child Abuse, Violence Prevention, Autism, DASA).
REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail
Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Good computer skills for using Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel and appropriate web interfaces for internal and external monitoring and reporting purposes.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience. NYS certification background preferred.
