Research Associate-Fixed Term


Position Summary
The Research Associate (Postdoctoral) will join a large collaborative NSF project examining water quality relationships with land use/cover and climate: A macrosystems ecology framework for continental-scale prediction and understanding of lakes . The primary responsibilities of the researcher will conduct (lead and support) landscape limnology research questions, such as understanding continental-scale drivers of lake nutrients and carbon; predicting continental-scale pools of lake nutrients; identifying the role that novelty in ecological context plays in continental-scale predictions.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: conducting (lead and support) landscape limnology research to answer questions about the continental-scale drivers of lake nutrients and carbon; predicting continental-scale pools of lake nutrients; identifying the role that novelty in ecological context plays in continental-scale predictions this includes all aspects of the research endeavor both as lead author and as co-author (e.g., question formation; data visualization, analysis, and interpretation; literature review; manuscript writing and publishing); supervise students or on-call staff to aid in this effort; author metadata to accompany state-wide datasets; assist in LAGOS-US database development and management; and assist in QAQC procedures of LAGOS-US.

Ideal candidate will communicate and interact with students (graduate and undergraduate) - in order to provide assistance, exchange information, solve problems, coordinate research; co-workers - in order to provide assistance, exchange information, coordinate research; public - in order to share information; university personnel - in order to assist with administration and share information; federal and local agencies - in order to acquire data and document metadata; principal Investigators - to coordinate research activities, facilitate administrative and operational needs, and provide support; outside agencies - to assist in coordination of research activities and obtain information; and departmental administrators - to provide research logistics and report on financial and regulatory auditing reviews. Provide first-level supervision over undergraduate student employees or temporary on-call employees.

Required Degree
Doctorate -Ecology, Limnology, Landscape Ecology or

Minimum Requirements
Competitive candidates should be highly motivated and possess (by position start date) a Ph.D. in Ecology, Limnology, Landscape Ecology or related discipline with strong quantitative emphasis (statistics and/or computer science). The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment is essential.

Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated excellent analytical, problem solving and research skills including oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to write scientific papers; knowledge of open science and data-intensive science tools (e.g., GitHub, GIS, R).
