Adjunct Faculty to teach Elementary Science and Social Science Methods (Grades

The Department of Education at Elmhurst College in the west suburbs of Chicago invites applications for adjunct faculty for the 2018-19 academic year. We are looking for someone to teach the integrated science and social studies methods courses for the elementary education program (grades 1-6).

Essential Functions
1. Teach integrated science and social studies methods courses for elementary teacher candidates (grades 1-6).
2. Be available during the day to teach the courses on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
3. Be available for meetings a few times during the semester on Tuesdays or Thursdays.
4. Grade, manage and set up modules using the Blackboard learning management system.
5. Work with interdisciplinary (math and literacy methods) and other elementary education instructors.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
As assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Master's degree or higher
2. Illinois teaching license
3. Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards and C3 Framework for Social Studies; experience teaching elementary science and social studies
4. Strong collaboration skills; Demonstrates culturally responsive pedagogy

Preferred Qualifications
Endorsed in science and/or social studies.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.

Work Hours
Be available to teach, and have office hours, Tuesdays and Thursdays, between 9:30 and 4pm.
