Business Operations Specialist

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Hotel Controller, the Business Operations Supervisor will provide fiscal, administrative, supervisory, and department support for The Inn at Virginia Tech Accounting department. This position supports and coordinates the department's fiscal operations overseeing purchase orders, financial reconciliations and adjustments, payroll, reconciling accounts, assisting with monthly financial statements, posting journal entries and petty cash audits. The Business Operations Supervisor is responsible for posting the daily revenue and auditing the work of the cashiers at the front desk and food and beverage departments. This position will ensure all revenue transactions are completed both in a timely and accurate manner, auditing daily deposits, updating daily spreadsheets for both lodging and food and beverage and reconciling miscellaneous revenues. The Business Operations Supervisor will also cross-train to back up other positions within the accounting department. This position will be expected to work with a variety of university departments and offices while maintaining a level of professionalism and exceptional customer service. You will be working with a diverse clientele to effectively facilitate the daily financial administrative operations of the office. This position will also provide supervision for one or more accounting positions and will require daily interaction with department level managers.

Required Qualifications:
• Associates or Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field or equivalent level of training and or experience
• Experience with reconciling accounts
• Experience processing payroll
• Previous supervisory experience
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, large databases, and general office software skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with University Banner Finance and HR systems, HokieMart, Delphi Space Management system, and OPERA Property Management system
• Working knowledge of University and/or state accounting policies and procedures
• Hotel hospitality experience with an ability to communicate effectively with hotel guests, hotel employees, hotel department heads and all levels of the University community
