Assistant Director of Housing and Residence LIfe

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Housing, the Assistant Director of
Housing and Residence Life is responsible for the direction, organization and administration of the personnel functions of the department; the shared leadership and administration of the department; supervision of administrative specialist handling human resources paperwork for the department, and oversight of assigned departmental program areas.
Core responsibilities:
• Participate in office leadership with other Assistant Directors, Associate Directors, and the Director to manage key departmental processes related to recruitment, training and professional development of the entire department.
• Direct and oversee all hiring processes for student, graduate student, and university and faculty positions assigned to the department ensuring compliance with university, state and federal guidelines.
• Conduct faculty search processes, or serve as coordinator or consultant to faculty search committees. Lead staff selection, training, evaluation and other processes.
• Convene committees of representatives within and outside of Housing and Residence Life to facilitate inclusive and effective recruitment and hiring processes for all levels of staff.
• Develop compensation plans, positions and descriptions, and a budget for all student employee positions; coordinate with Human Resources in hiring process for university and faculty positions.
• Coordinate with critical partners within and outside of department to ensure that recruitment and training functions are well planned and coordinated.
• Assist with occupancy, housing assignments, and other administrative functions in the department as needed.
• Train, supervise and evaluate an Office Specialist.
• Develop and maintain working relationships within the Senior Associate Vice President for Student Affairs (e.g. Dining Services, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Cranwell International Center, and Student Conduct), and Student Affairs. Liaison with a variety of University faculty members and administrative staff; serve on departmental and university committees.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
-Master's degree in college student affairs or related field
-Progressively responsible professional experience related to the area of housing and residence life.
-Previous training and supervision of full-time employees.
-Prior experience with employment or staff selection processes and general administration.
-Excellent communication skills.
-Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student body and foster sensitivity to diversity issues in the university community.
-Demonstrated successful collaboration with numerous and diverse constituents.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Prior experience in a large-school setting;
-Significant years of experience in housing and residence life.
-Significant administrative experience that includes budgets, project management, planning, occupancy and assessment.
-Demonstrated training and teaching experience.
