Assistant Director, Mentorship Program

Position Summary:
The Assistant Director, Coordinator of Undergraduate Mentorship Program, will serve on one of our College Career Network teams and will report to the Associate Director of that team. The Assistant Director will work closely with an implementation team and Alumni Affairs to set up, pilot, and launch an undergraduate mentorship program with Virginia Tech alumni and other professionals. For success, the program will include a plan to include orientations, marketing & communication, and program assessment. As a mentoring advocate, the person in this position will become familiar with all campus mentorship programs and facilitate meetings for and share resources with the Mentorship Resource Network. Other responsibilities include providing one-on-one advising (in person, through email, via phone, Skype, etc.) and developing and delivering presentations to undergraduate and graduate students on topics such as selecting an academic major; choosing a career direction; developing a job search plan; interviewing (including conducting mock interviews); gaining career-related experience; writing effective resumes, cover letters, and personal statements; researching companies and graduate schools; evaluating and negotiating offers. The Assistant Director will serve as office liaison to first generation students.

Required Qualifications:
•Master's degree in counselor education, higher education, student affairs, or related field
•Academic advising, career counseling, or related experience
•Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and team skills.
•Experience with project and program development, with ability to envision outcomes and manage details
•Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative working relationships towards a common goal
•Ability to assess programs and make informed changes
•Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience with mentorship programs
•Experience with interpreting career assessments, critiquing resume, and conducting mock interviews
•Experience successfully writing grant proposals and managing grant projects
•Experience working with first generation students in an educational environment
•Demonstrated experience working with a vendor software system
