Lead Integration Engineer

Position Summary:
Enterprise Systems (ES) is a unit within the Division of Information Technology at Virginia Tech. Enterprise Systems supports the mission of the university by developing, coordinating, and managing application software systems that provide critical information services for university constituents.
Business Application and Integration Services ( BAIS ) is a team within Enterprise Systems seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lead Integration Engineer interested in using evolving technologies such as Docker containerization, Java based micro-services, and RESTful APIs to solve business problems within a dynamic technical environment. The Lead Integration Engineer will play an active role in designing, building, and implementing an integration architecture to enable productivity, improve constituent experiences on both desktop and mobile platforms, and promote a highly decoupled application ecosystem. Dedicated to the success of the team, the Lead Integration Engineer works closely with application and cloud architects, developers, business partners, and external vendors to design, implement, and orchestrate integrations, to promote compliance with and evangelize integration architecture designs, and to enhance the Virginia Tech experience. The Lead Integration Engineer brings to the position a deep understanding of modern software development and integration coupled with a commitment to providing innovative solutions to solving enterprise technology challenges.

Required Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree
-Strong relational database knowledge
-Substantial experience developing applications or micro-services in one or more modern object-oriented programming languages
-Significant experience developing micro-services, especially in an enterprise environment
-Demonstrated experience developing RESTful APIs
-Experience leading and successfully delivering complex initiatives, meeting quality and time expectations
-Experience supporting business processes and applications
-Demonstrated experience successfully guiding one or more diverse development teams
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience using a modern Enterprise Service Bus such as ServiceMix, Mule, Talend, or JBoss Fuse
-Experience with mobile application development
-Experience with JavaScript frameworks and libraries such as Bootstrap, Angular, or React
-Experience writing complex SQL procedures
-Experience with Java or JVM application frameworks
-Experience using Scrum or Kanban project management
-Experience leading or mentoring one or more development teams
