Applications are currently being accepted for the position of Assistant Professor, Emergency Medical Technician at San Diego Miramar College beginning Fall 2018. Located in the Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch area of San Diego, Miramar College is one of three colleges in the San Diego Community College District. The assignment may include day, evening, Saturday and/or off-campus responsibilities.

Major Responsibilities:
The Assistant Professor of Emergency Medical Technician reports to the Miramar College Dean of Public Safety. The Assistant professor is expected to perform the following duties: Teach EMGM 105A, EMGM 050, EMGM 106, EMGM 350 and EMGM 205. Participate in EMT/Fire Technology department meetings. Assist with curriculum revision, development and course/program assessments. Maintain office hours for student advisement and mentoring. Participate in college and/or district committees which promote shared governance. Maintain current paramedic licensure and/or Emergency Medical Technician certification.

Qualifications:
The minimum qualifications for Emergency Medical Technologies are any bachelorsdegree or higher and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.

Desired Qualifications:
Possession of a Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution with (2) years of paramedic or EMT academic or clinical experience in prehospital emergency care in the last (2) years or an Associates Degree from an accredited institution with (6) six years of paramedic or EMT academic or clinical experience in prehospital emergency care in the last (2) years; AND, Demonstrated current licensure, in good standing, as an EMT-Paramedic in California. Demonstrated qualification by education and experience in methods, materials, and evaluation of instruction, which shall be documented by a minimum of (40) hours of instruction in teaching methodology. The following, but not limited to, are examples of courses that meet the requirements: California State Fire Marshal Fire Instructor 1A and 1B, National Fire Academy Fire Service Instructional Methodology Course or National Association of EMS Educator Course. Demonstrated currency in the field through professional development. Possession of current BLS Instructor, ACLS Instructor and PHTLS Provider cards. Demonstrated knowledge of the State of California Code of Regulations Title 22. Division 9-Chapter 2, relating to EMT training, certification, and scope of practice. Demonstrated knowledge of the San Diego County Office of Emergency Medical Services Policy and Procedures as related to EMT and paramedic practice. Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with students, colleagues, administrators and other staff. Demonstrated abilities to incorporate innovative technologies and practices in didactic and skills instruction. Demonstrated ability to communicate and teach effectively both orally and in writing. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Student Learning Outcomes.

Licenses:
Current California EMT-Paramedic License. Current BLS Instructor, ACLS Instructor and PHTLS Provider cards. Demonstrated qualification by education and experience in methods, materials, and evaluation of instruction, which shall be documented by a minimum of (40) hours of instruction in teaching methodology. The following, but not limited to, are examples of courses that meet the requirements: California State Fire Marshal Fire Instructor 1A and 1B, National Fire Academy Fire Service Instructional Methodology Course or National Association of EMS Educator Course.

Pay Information:
Class 1, Step A Class 6, Step C ($5,754.92 $7,754.42) per month based on the current AFT College Faculty Tenured- Tenured Track Monthly Salary Schedule

Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.2 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
