Position Summary:
Reporting to the Grounds Operations Supervisor, the Grounds Worker supports the Facilities Department in the installation and maintenance of the university's grounds by operating various trucks, commercial-type riding mowers, push mowers, leaf vacs, farm tractors with attachments, rototillers, chainsaws, weed eaters, and small power and hand tools. The position performs daily routine maintenance such as checking oil and fluid levels, inspecting belts, sharpening blades, replacing blades, and making minor repairs. The position also removes snow from sidewalks, ramps, and steps.

Required Qualifications:
- General/manual labor related experience.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must have the ability to safely operate commercial-type mowers, tractors, and power tools in densely populated areas, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing 50 pounds or more; maneuver materials up and down stairs; ability to climb and work from elevated workstations such as ladders and scaffolds; and work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling..
- Must be able to communicate effectively, work as an effective team member, and receive and execute instructions from the immediate supervisor and/or lead worker.
- Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
- May be required to work additional hours/shifts to meet the needs of the department.
- Must wear employer-provided uniforms as instructed by supervisor or lead.
- As situation dictates, must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE ).
- This position is designated as "Emergency Personnel" and employee must be available to work during emergency situations (including inclement weather, call-backs, etc.) as directed by supervisor or lead. May be required to work extended shifts, additional hours and overtime to meet the needs of the department.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in grounds care in an institutional or commercial setting.
- Experience using commercial riding mowers, tractors, small power and hand tools.
- Experience performing grounds maintenance in populated areas.
- Commercial Driver's License ( CDL ), Class B with air brake endorsement.
- Pesticide Registered Technician Certification.
