Secretary - Africana Education Program



Eastern Washington University's Africana Studies Program invites applications for a full time Secretary to perform routine secretarial duties such as making travel arrangements, scheduling meetings, taking notes and transcribing minutes, keeping supervisors and/or staff member's calendar(s), producing final copy documents from drafts, composing forms and letters, and responding to inquiries from staff, students, and/or the public regarding departmental procedures or services.


Position requires experience working with students of African descent and other ethnic minorities and sensitivity to working with a culturally diverse academic population.


Position reports directly to the Director of the Africana Education Program. This is a 100% full time position that is scheduled to work 12 months each year.


Position is located on Eastern's Cheney campus. Screening will begin 5/14/2018. All materials will be held in strictest confidence; references will not be contacted until candidates have been notified.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Two-years of office experience including reception duties and requiring keyboarding

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience working with students of African descent and other ethnic minorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and complete duties in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.




Preferred Qualifications:

  • College coursework or a Bachelor's degree

  • Three or more years experience working in an office setting for a medium to large organization

  • Knowledge and/or experience working in higher education

  • Website maintenance experience
