Job Description Summary

The School of Kinesiology within the College of Education at Auburn University announces a nine-month tenure track position, at the assistant or associate level, beginning January or August, 2019. Rank will be determined based on the requirements for Assistant or Associate Professor as described in the School of Kinesiology, College of Education, and Auburn University tenure and promotion guidelines.

We are seeking an exercise physiologist who will complement current research expertise in the School's exercise physiology discipline (e.g., biochemistry of exercise, bioenergetics, cardiovascular disease, health disparities, infrared imaging, mitochondrial metabolism, protein metabolism, skeletal and cardiac muscle physiology, nutrition, sports nutrition, pediatric physiology, thermoregulation, and vascular biology and physiology).

In Spring 2013, the School of Kinesiology moved into a new "state of the art" building as sole occupant. Current physiology equipment and research capabilities available in our building include: 12' by 12' environmental chamber (range of -40 to +140 degrees Fahrenheit, and 10 to 80 percent relative humidity; assignable to successful candidate if desired), infrared imaging systems, Artinis near infrared Oxymon, Instrumentation Laboratory GEM Premier 4000 blood gas/pH/ion analyzer, CO-Oximeter, Hitachi cardiovascular ultrasound machine, oxygen electrode systems for mitochondrial function measures, western blotting and immunohistochemistry equipment, bright field and fluorescent microscopes, real-time PCR thermal cycler, spectrophotometer, fluorometer, luminometer, flow cytometer, Bergstrom muscle biopsy, Parvo Medics metabolic carts, Woodway treadmills, Velotron cycle ergometers, Olympic lifting platform, isokinetic dynamometers, cell culture hoods and incubators. Auburn University also has a new MRI Research Center that contains one of the first actively-shielded whole-body 7T MRI scanners in the U.S. for research use and a Siemens Verio open-bore 3T scanner for clinical and research use.

The successful candidate should possess/develop his/her own national and international recognition and further enhance a nationally recognized research program as evidenced by a strong record of impactful publications and citations, presentations in national and international venues, and external funding. This faculty member will also display excellent abilities for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of his/her expertise. Additional responsibilities include recruiting, advising, and training students in the M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs, supervising graduate research, and providing service to the School, College, University, community, and professional organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physiology, or related field by start date. Evidence of accomplishment or potential in grant scholarship and external funding, strong publication record, evidence of innovative research, excellent interpersonal communication skills, interest in collaboration, and workplace collegiality; must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time appointment begins, and be able to continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have university teaching experience and actively participate in pertinent professional organizations. Postdoctoral experience will also be considered a positive attribute.
