Senior Associate Director

JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Associate Director of Alumni Relations will engage Adelphi University's 100,000+ living alumni in significant ways including expanding national presence and volunteerism. The Senior Associate Director will actively participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the alumni relations program that not only aligns with Momentum , the University's strategic plan, but also meets the following goals:

Connection: Manage regional chapters designed to promote lifelong connections and University advocacy nationwide.
Collaboration: Identify volunteer engagement opportunities for alumni with campus colleagues.
Recognition: Create award and recognition opportunities for alumni to increase reputation of Adelphi.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Connection: Manage regional chapters designed to promote lifelong connections and University advocacy nationwide.
Develop, support, and strengthen regional alumni chapters that focus on maintaining lifelong connections to Adelphi University and enhancing Adelphi's brand.
Serve as the lead staff liaison to chapter leaders by assisting them with chapter formation, event planning, outreach, communication, and execution of programming.
Grow University engagement through regional and national alumni event participation.
Manage budgets for chapter activity and work with external vendors as needed.
Collaboration: Identify volunteer engagement opportunities for alumni with campus colleagues.
Create and implement a Volunteer Engagement strategy to maintain relationships between volunteers and Adelphi University.
Develop and manage relationships with campus departments to identify, promote, and execute new and existing volunteer opportunities across the University.
Cultivate a national network of alumni volunteers and oversee placement of volunteer in appropriate opportunities.
Develop and cultivate new and existing relationships with alumni through one-on-one visits and meetings to identify and recruit potential alumni volunteers.
Research individual alumni with volunteer and/or giving potential and recommend these volunteers for greater University involvement.
Create and distribute a volunteer newsletter to keep alumni engaged and informed.
Assist Executive Director with the recruitment and management of the Alumni Advisory Council and committees as needed.
Serve as staff liaison to campus Advisory Boards & leadership groups.
With Advancement Services, build and maintain a volunteer tracking tool within Raiser's Edge database.
Through effective volunteer engagement and cultivation, aid in the development of a pipeline of annual, lead, major, and planned gift prospects for Adelphi.
Participate in the planning, promotion, volunteer management and staffing activities as they relate to Adelphi Spirit Weekend.
Work to achieve attendance objectives, recruit effective volunteers, and contribute to the overall success of Adelphi Spirit Weekend.
Along with the Center for Career and Professional Development, manage and promote Alumni Fire, the University's exclusive online networking portal.
Generate consistent content for Alumni Fire volunteers including professional development opportunities, links to related news and relevant articles.
Recognition:
Create award and recognition opportunities for alumni to increase reputation of Adelphi.
Identify new and evaluate existing University awards and recognition opportunities for alumni and volunteers.
Create and expand programs and communications that highlight alumni personal and professional success .

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage and direct Alumni Relations Associate. Supervise and evaluate performance.
Oversee the daily department workflow of events, projects, and initiatives in absence of Executive Director.
Assist in the evaluation and revisions of department's policies, procedures, and daily operations.
Report, track and forecast results from all activities. Provide regular reports on monthly, quarterly, and annual results.
Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including proficiency in e-communications. Strong working knowledge and experience with social media platforms.
Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with and make the best and most effective use of volunteers.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and to creatively solve problems.
Ability to speak effectively and persuasively at events and/or to make presentations to individuals and both small and large groups.
Ability to work independently. At the same time, ability to work effectively on teams with both internal (faculty/staff) and external (alumni/parents) partners and volunteers.
Experience in event planning within defined budgetary and programmatic guidelines.
Understanding and appreciation of the prospect cycle: identification, engagement, cultivation, involvement, solicitation, stewardship.
Understanding and commitment to the mission, vision, and programs of Adelphi University.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability and willingness to travel. Night and weekend work will be required.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree required. Master's degree preferred .
Five-to-seven years of experience in alumni relations, fundraising, constituent management/relations, or a similar field required.
Experience working with volunteers required.
Supervisory experience required.
Experience with Raiser's Edge (preferred) or similar CRM required.
Knowledge of and familiarity with Moves Management preferred.
