Reference Operations Coordinator (LAP 6)




Eastern Washington University seeks an experienced Reference Operations Coordinator (Library & Archives Paraprofessional 6) to join Library staff on our Cheney Campus. This is a full time position that works the equivalent of 11 months each year.


Key responsibilities of this position include:


•Perform complex bibliographic and reference searches using knowledge of library catalogs, databases, and reference resources. Use effective communication skills to interpret and confer with patrons to determine their information needs.
•Act as liaison with EWU patrons, community members, and other libraries; inform patrons of location and availability of library materials.
•Supervise library Reference Desk student employees.
•Prepare annual, operational, and other unit reports.


The preferred start date is July 1, 2018. This position is supervised by the Reference Services Coordinator Librarian. Position is located on Eastern's Cheney campus. All materials will be held in strictest confidence; references will not be contacted until candidates have been notified.

Conditions of Employment


This is a full time position that works the equivalent of 11 months each year. Position will have scheduled days off equal to one month's time distributed throughout the year; these cyclic days off are unpaid. The schedule for the cyclic days off will be determined at the time of hire corresponding to business needs in providing support to Library patrons. Benefits continue uninterrupted throughout the year.


Must be able to perform position's essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be available to work assigned schedule Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.



This is an agency shop position.





Required Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications


•High school graduation or equivalent.
•Five years of experience in the functional operations of a library including two years beyond the entry level in an area of specialization.
•One year of lead/supervisory experience.

To meet the requirement for “two years beyond the entry level in an area of specialization,” the candidate selected for this position must offer at least two years' recent experience (experience acquired within the past five years is considered recent) working in library reference services.


Position Specific Requirements - You must offer work experience which demonstrates all of the following position specific requirements:

•Two years' experience and knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of library reference and research services.
•One year of job experience exercising independent judgment and action.
•Three years' job experience providing effective communication, public service, and working collaboratively in a team environment.
•Two years of job experience creating and tracking staffing budgets.
•Job experience using Primo or comparable ILS software.
•Demonstrated ability in compiling statistics and analyzing data, reports, or surveys using applications such as Excel, Desk Tracker, and Survey Monkey.
•Demonstrated ability to complete multiple tasks and projects with overlapping deadlines while applying critical thinking skills, great attention to detail, and perseverance.
•Demonstrated ability to maintain helpful and professional demeanor while working in a busy, sometimes stressful environment, providing support to multiple people, and enduring interruptions throughout the day.
•Demonstrated organizational skills.
•Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.




Preferred Qualifications:

•Two years or more of lead/supervisory experience.
•Job experience using Adobe Photoshop.
•Job experience using applications such as web editing software.

•Ability to take initiative, and exercise resourcefulness and independent motivation.
