University Studies (BSIS), Full-Time Temporary Faculty

MTSU's Department of University Studies invites applicants for a full-time temporary (non-tenurable), faculty position #114010) at the rank of Lecturer. Start date is August 1, 2018.

The successful candidate is expected to teach upper level courses such as PRST 4995 Culminating Project and/or PRST 3995 Research Methods and Project Planning. The culminating project takes the form of an academic research paper which should demonstrate synthesis of student coursework. Utilizing strategies to engage students in a online environment while identifying students at academic risk needing intervention, this position requires teaching online and hybrid courses using MTSU's Course Management System. Must have capacity to work with students of varying abilities. Individuals will also be expected to submit retention reports; engage in academic progress reporting; and document student learning outcomes according to prescribed methods.

The position requires the online lecturer to regularly and predictably be available to online students both in class and office hours. The person hired must be a resident of Tennessee and will be required to meet occasionally with the chair of the department or MTSU administration as requested. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the faculty member. Prior to beginning the teaching of online courses, the faculty must receive the appropriate online training and/or certification to teach both MTSU and TNeCampus online classes.

Required Education
Master's Degree with at least 18 hours in Information Technology, Organizational Communication, English or related field.

Candidates with prior experience teaching upper division courses, working with non-traditional student populations, working with interdisciplinary studies programs, or those with experience teaching online courses will receive special consideration.
