Powerline Worker

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Electric Service Supervisor and under the guidance and/or supervision of the Lead Powerline Worker, the Powerline Worker installs, maintains and repairs electric utility distribution systems and a variety of other electrical service and equipment; utilizes hot line equipment and tools; does related work as required; and may lead other line crew personnel in the absence of the Lead Powerline Worker.

Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge (at the Journeyman Level) of primary and secondary power distribution.
- Demonstrated detailed knowledge of underground and overhead distribution line construction and maintenance practices.
- Working knowledge and understanding of hot line work.
- Must have valid driver's license with good driving record.
- Must have a Commercial Driver's License ( CDL ) Class B or higher.
- Must possess and maintain a DOT medical certification.
- Must have the ability to work effectively within a team or small crew organization on a daily basis.
- Must have the ability to safely move and handle materials weighing up to 100 lbs; to safely climb wood poles utilizing gaffs and personal protective equipment; to safely operate line and aerial lift trucks, backhoes; and to safely work in an aerial lift bucket to heights of 60 feet and underground confined space associated with duct bank installations.
- Must be willing and able to work extra and irregular hours as the utility needs may require, and willing to work under unusual or special working conditions such as storms, extreme temperatures, winds, darkness, etc.
- Ability to work independently with all work subject to inspection by supervisor.
- Ability to install and maintain street lights.
- Ability to serve as a crew supervisor in absence of Powerline Lead Worker.
- Ability to instruct and train others.
- Ability to investigate power failures and restore power during emergencies.
- Ability to document work for updating of system records.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Training equal to four year apprenticeship in high voltage electric distribution line construction.
- Demonstrated experience in hot line work, pole climbing, and line construction (12 kv) and low voltage electrical distribution facilities.
- Considerable high voltage distribution experience with an electrical utility or electrical contractor.
