A postdoctoral position is available in the basic and translational pulmonary laboratory of Dr. Frank McCormack. Duties will include the experimental design, execution, and analysis of an NIH-funded research project focused on host susceptibility to influenza. Previous experience of working with animal models of infection is preferred.

Areas of focus include:

Novel Methods of Inhibiting Pandemic Influenza and Viral Pneumonia: Our research focuses on host-pathogen interaction between Influenza-A, and the airway epithelium in vivo. We are examining the role of the epithelial cell mitogen KGF and other growth factors on Influenza susceptibility and viral production in the lung. Additionally, we are studying the role of pulmonary collectins in the innate defense against viral infection and determining the potential utility of using mutated surfactant proteins as an anti-influenza therapeutic.

Position Qualifications :Interested applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, cellular biology or related field with research experience in biochemistry, molecular or cellular biology.
