The Department of English at the University of Connecticut invites applications for two (2) annually renewable positions at either the Instructor in Residence or Assistant Professor in Residence level at the Storrs Campus with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2018.

We seek engaging and excellent instructors of composition in English for our growing second-language writing program, an essential piece of the First-Year Writing Program at Storrs.

The University of Connecticut has a diverse student population and a growing number of international and domestic multilingual students. Successful candidates would join this vibrant First-Year Writing Program, and become a part of an engaged group of writing program instructors, administrators, and scholars across the UConn system. The primary responsibilities include teaching First-Year writing courses devoted to second-language writing with opportunities to create workshops for instructors and to develop other courses for both undergraduates and graduates (depending on qualifications and experience). The course load is 21 credits academic year or equivalent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in English or closely related field. Evidence of engagement with current trends in language acquisition and writing as well as experience teaching composition in English to multilingual students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of all requirements for the PhD in Rhetoric/Composition, Linguistics, Literature, TESOL or a closely related field by the start date of employment and evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Experience teaching college-level writing with some graduate coursework in linguistics or rhetoric/composition and second language acquisition through writing.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

These are full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track positions that will report to the Head of the English Department. Positions may be renewed annually. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
