Adelphi University in New York invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of Data Analytics and Insights. The Director will report to the Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management (AVPEM) and will have dual reporting lines to both the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration (EVPFA) and the Executive Vice President and Provost (EVP&Provost). The Director will lead the newly formed cross-departmental Data Analytics team and will be responsible for the development of a data-based environment to support regular analysis and decision making throughout the University. In addition to the AVPEM, EVPFA, and the EVP&Provost, the Director will work closely with other members of the Executive Leadership team to advance the institution's overall strategic objectives and strategic plan , Momentum .

Adelphi University seeks a collaborative and persuasive Director with a distinguished record of outstanding professional service and accomplishment. The ideal candidate will have high-level administrative leadership capacity, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to lead and implement change in a consensus-driven and proactive manner.
Applicants should possess significant management level experience in higher education, foundation, government or business organizations of relevant size and complexity with deep and broad experience in the following areas: data analytics, project management, team building and change management.
ENTERPRISE-WIDE DATA ANALYTICS
The data analytics team is newly formulated at Adelphi University, created as a result of careful consideration of campus needs, as well as a review of best practices among peer institutions nationwide. The Director will lead the team and will oversee all aspects of business intelligence and data analytics to enhance decision making and execution of strategic initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
The following summarizes the responsibilities and key requirements of the position.
STRENGTHEN A DATA-DRIVEN CULTURE
- The Director of Data Analytics and Insights will be responsible for driving the design, development and ongoing enhancement of business analytics and insights across all business units within the University, relying on the introduction of executive and operational dashboards.
- The highly visible position will lead the newly formed Data Analytics team, serving as a champion and change agent for business analytics by enhancing and strengthening a culture of data-driven decision-making.
DEVELOPMENT OF DATA UTILIZATION FOR BUSINESS DECISION MAKING
- The Director will be someone who loves to bring data together to answer complex business questions that support the realization of operational and strategic goals as outlined in Momentum, the University's strategic plan.
- With minimal supervision, this individual will collaborate with departments to gain business insights and provide strategic guidance to the decision makers on those teams.
- The Director will provide leadership for various analytical projects throughout their lifecycle, from conceptual and methodological design through to the presentation of findings and insights to business leaders.
- The individual will be expected to understand business objectives and deliver clear and meaningful insights, thoughts, and action plans to management relying on internal data sources to drive insight and value through analytics and continuous, real-time monitoring.
ESTABLISH & MAINTAIN BEST PRACTICES
- The Director will be expected to select the most applicable best practices and implement them at Adelphi.
- The Director will be responsible for understanding the business need, data mining and ultimately analyzing, reporting and presenting those findings with actionable insights aligned with best practice models, ensuring data integrity throughout.
- In collaboration with key data units, this individual will acquire and stage data for use by numerous cross-departmental analysts.
- The Director must oversee development of dashboards that align with best practices and that showcase real-time results/Key Performance Indicators. This individual must assist in extracting meaningful conclusions leading to development of strategy and execution plans.
- This individual must identify and evaluate new advanced analytic requests and new data sources for further evaluation.
DATA VISUALIZATION
- The individual must create executive dashboards organized by unit, and complex ad hoc reports and analysis, which often require use of multiple data stores.
- The Director will lead creation of compelling data visualization of key performance metrics.
- Remaining solution-oriented, this individual will be expected to produce thorough real-time analyses presented in optimized visuals, with ability to clearly articulate methodology and results in an understandable fashion.
- The Director will provide data visualization guidance to all analysts and the full data analytics team, driving design and maintenance of sophisticated executive and operational dashboards.
COLLABORATION
- The Director will be expected to partner with various University departments to compile requirements for dashboard creation.
- While leading the analytics team, the Director will be expected to document and communicate status of projects and initiatives to senior team members.
- This individual will act as a liaison with the Information Technology and the Office of Research, Assessment, and Planning partners to ensure full understanding of data flow, data integrity, system security, data definitions, and institutional trends.
- The Director will prepare documentation/reports to provide strategy updates to management.
- This position is expected to collaborate with and advise senior leadership, deans, department chairs, faculty and staff in identifying, developing and implementing data analytics to increase the overall efficiency and effectiveness in areas of strategic importance to the University.
- The individual must have the ability to effectively partner across all levels of the organization to provide leadership and guidance in the journey to create a data-given leadership culture.
- The Director will develop strong working relations with University-wide partners to define and understand the KPIs relative to each unit.
QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in data visualization and optimization.
- Ability to access raw data using SAS and/or SQL programming and then aggregate to summarize results.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Analyze and recommend areas for additional analysis.

- Working knowledge of various analytical and reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Qlik, and Domo).
- Ability to identify Key Performance Indicators across a variety of departments.
- Familiarity with advanced research methodology to analyze national and international higher education trends, providing benchmarks for institutional performance.
- Ability to prepare dashboards to support program planning, recruitment management, policy assessment, and more.
- Full familiarity with how to access and extract data from student, employee, and course databases.

- Be intimately familiar with data sources, the process of cleaning and mining data and how to combine data elements to create in depth analytics and insights.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced degree such as an MBA or Master's Degree in relevant disciplines (e.g., Statistics, Data Analytics, etc.).
- Three+ years of professional experience in educational environment.
- Five+ years of professional experience in business analytics or other quantitative discipline in data-centric business environment, preferably within the education industry is required.
- 2-3+ years' experience in a supervisory role.
