The Dietetic Internship Clinical Faculty will precept dietetic interns in their Medical Nutrition Therapy/Clinical Nutrition rotation. The position requires the instructor to move between designated partner hospital locations in the greater Boston area, and Simmons College. S/he will teach at least one Simmons College nutrition course per semester, to be determined by the Nutrition Department Chair in consultation with the candidate.

Responsibilities:
  • Precept 12 dietetic interns per year (4 at a time for three cycles) in their Medical Nutrition Therapy/Clinical Nutrition rotation. The position requires the instructor to move between 2 designated partner hospital locations in the greater Boston area, and Simmons College.
  • Teach at least one Simmons College nutrition course per semester, to be determined by the Nutrition Department Chair in consultation with the candidate.
  • In conjunction with the Clinical Nutrition Managers at the partner hospitals, coordinate intern schedules for the rotation and daily patient assignments.
  • Plan and select appropriate clinical experiences which will meet the current DI competencies and student learning needs.
  • The clinical instructor is expected to complete any initial required training or documentation as needed by the partner sites and stay current with continuing training required by both partner hospitals and Simmons College.
  • Meet with the interns on a regular basis, both formally and informally. Evaluate each intern's progress and provide timely formative and summative feedback to the intern.
  • Observe the intern's professional style and provide feedback for growth to entry-level RD expectations.
  • Identify and facilitate learning activities that support the attainment of competencies/learning outcomes.
  • Assist the interns in setting appropriate goals and a schedule for completion of competencies during the rotation.
  • Support and advise interns, providing perspective when needed.
  • Complete required supervised practice documentation in a timely manner.
  • Communicate each intern's progress and any issues regarding the interns' supervised practice experience in general to the Simmons College Dietetic Internship Director and/or Assistant Director.
  • Collaborate with the Dietetic Internship Director and Assistant Director to plan learning activities for all Simmons dietetic interns (including orientation, wrap up days, weekly internship classes, joint class days, etc).
  • Facilitate lessons for all DI interns related to MNT, may including running some Monday seminar sessions with the larger class of Simmons interns.
  • Assist DI Selection Committee when choosing incoming interns
  • Model evidence-based practice, professional behavior, time management, and ethical practice.
  • Perform other appropriate tasks expected of Simmons College Nutrition faculty as identified by the Dietetic Internship Director, Department Chair and/or Dean

    Qualifications:
  • M.S. degree in Nutrition Sciences, Dietetics or related discipline.
  • Registered Dietitian with current CDR certification, Massachusetts State Licensure as a licensed dietitian/nutritionist (LDN).
  • Minimum of five years of clinical nutrition experience required, seven years or more preferred.
  • Previous experience as a site preceptor for Medical Nutrition Therapy/Clinical Nutrition for dietetic interns.
  • The successful candidate will provide evidence of initiative, maturity, and professionalism, attention to detail, excellent organizational ability, time management and interpersonal skills, which include high-quality oral and written communication skills.
  • The successful candidate will show ability to function in several roles, including guide, role model, mentor, counselor, coach, teacher, resource, and colleague.
  • Strong computer skills-including familiarity with Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience in geriatrics and familiarity with MDS preferred.
  • The successful candidate should have teaching experience with preference given for applicants who have experience teaching dietetics students in a DPD program, as the position requires teaching one DPD or Master's class per semester (fall and spring) in addition to precepting interns.
