Faculty Development Manager

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Faculty Development Manager supports University-wide Educational Effectiveness through managing and formalizing a centralized faculty development framework, which facilitates excellent student outcomes. Provides direct faculty development opportunities and supports Program Directors, Chairs, and Deans with identified faculty development needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages design and implementation of the University's centralized faculty development strategy, including expectations, processes and procedures.
Facilitates new instructor training around teaching, learning, and assessment best practices, in face to face and online modalities, synchronously and asynchronously.
Acts as mentor to faculty, as identified by academic administration.
Responsible for continual development and oversight of USAHS's mentoring and training processes, including tracking and badging system, peer review, etc.
Develops formal educational or training programs or classes and instructs others in teaching, learning, and assessment best practices.
Assists Program Directors in providing individualized faculty development plans for teaching effectiveness, based on newly hired, intermediate and more senior faculty.
Evaluates effectiveness of training initiatives and sessions (determines "Return on Investment" measures, etc).
Collaborates with educational and administrative support units to achieve faculty development goals.
Maintains knowledge of current trends in education and faculty development.
Instruction
a. Instructs training, faculty development courses, as assigned by Dean of Educational Effectiveness
Scholarship
a. Sets scholarship plan, implements plan as prescribed by Dean of Educational Effectiveness.
Service
a. Participates in University governance, curriculum planning, and functions to support development and growth of the institution
b. Serves on programmatic and University committees as assigned
c. Serves as University liaison in community and/or professional activities

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree (doctorate preferred) in Education, or closely-related degree.
At least 3 years of higher education instructional experience, preferably at the graduate level (or closely-related experience in training, mentoring or coaching may be considered).
In-depth knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional approaches, assessment techniques.
Ability to transfer theory into practice, to reach a broad audience.
Knowledge of educational practices within health sciences (clinical approaches, etc.).
Knowledge of various accreditation requirements as it applies to faculty development expectations.
At least 5 years of past faculty development experience (commiserate management and/or trainer experience would be considered).
Experience with delivering training/instruction in a variety of formats (face-to-face, online, synchronous-remotely).

LICENSURE and/or CERTIFICATION

BUSINESS COMPETENCIES
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Able to work independently and implement strategies and goals across a dispersed campus system.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Valid driver's license for State of residence and at least minimum liability insurance required by State.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products, knowledge of Learning Management Systems (such as Blackboard), knowledge of Assessment Management Systems (such as LiveText)
